Start-up, Software Installation
Before start-up, make sure you install the software fi rst, so that the time and date can be set. This is required
to ensure that the time/date display in the video is correct.
• Insert the memory card into an appropriate card reader of your computer.
• Start the installation programme on the memory card and follow all the instructions.
• After installation, two programmes are available:
HomeWatchCam Setup: Setting of date/time
HomeWatchCam Player: to play the videos
• Start the "HomeWatchCam Setup" software.
Then set the time (A) and the date (B). Select the drive
letter of the memory card (C) and click „OK" (D).
If you select the wrong drive letter, the time/date infor-
mation will not be written to the memory card and the
camera can not adjust this.
• Insert the memory card into the camera, see chapter "Inserting/Removing the Memory Card".
• Close the camera, otherwise no electrical connection is possible between the battery compartment and the
electronics.
• Hold the down button (4) for one second in order to turn on the camera.
• The „power" LED is lit for a few seconds. During this time, the PIR motion sensor adjusts to the ambient
temperature.
The LED then goes off again.
• In order to test the surveillance area, a special function is integrated:
In the fi rst three motion detection phases by the PIR, the „power" LED fl ashes during the recording.
The LED stops fl ashing when the 3 motion detection test phases are over, if the PIR detects
motion, so that nobody can detect the device.
Should the test be repeated, quickly open and close the camera again. Turn the camera on as
described above (hold the control button (4) for one second).
• The camera is now ready to use and will record a video each time motion is detected.
Operation
The camera's housing must be kept closed, otherwise, no electronic connection is available
between the battery compartment and the electronics.
The memory card must be inserted correctly, see chapter „Inserting/Removing the Memory
Card".
Switching on
• Press and hold the control button (4) on the front for one second, until the green LED „power" lights up.
Then release the button.
• The „power" LED is lit for a few seconds. During this time, the PIR motion sensor adjusts to the ambient
temperature. The LED then goes off again.
When the red LED „low batt" fl ashes 6x and the camera turns off, the batteries are empty and must be
replaced with new ones.
If the blue LED „SD full" fl ashes 6x, the memory card was not recognised (not or not properly inserted or
wrong or defective memory card) or the write protection of the memory card is enabled.
• In the fi rst three motion detection phases by the PIR, the „power" LED fl ashes during the recording (see
also chapter „Startup, Software Installation"). Thereafter, no such indication is displayed anymore.
Switching off
Press and hold the control button (4) on the front, until the green LED "power" lights up, fl ashes 6x and goes
off. Release the button again.
Displaying Information
When the camera is in operation, you can check the status by briefl y pressing the control button (4) :
• Green LED ("power") is lit: the camera operates normally
• Red LED ("batt.low") is lit: The batteries are low/fl at and must be replaced
• Blue LED („SD full"): Memory card is full, the overwrite mode is enabled for the oldest data
Video recording and playback
• If the PIR motion detector (3) has detected a heat source in the detection area (e.g. an animal, a person
or a car), then the camera automatically records a video in the next 30 seconds.
In case an SD memory card is used, approx. 10-15 images are stored in the AVI fi le within 30 seconds; when
using a faster SDHC memory card, approx. 30 images are stored in the AVI fi le within 30 seconds.
• By storing frames in the AVI video fi le, a higher image quality than conventional video reording is possible.
In addition, the supplied software (see chapter „Start-up, Software Installation") allows playback of single
images or playback in fast motion.
• At each activation by the PIR, a new AVI fi le is saved, the recording time is 30 seconds in each case.
If a new activation by the PIR occurs within 30 seconds, the recording is automatically continued.
The recording time per AVI fi le is max. 1024 images.
• The AVI fi les that are stored by the camera on the memory card can be played with any suitable pro-
gramme.
However, we recommend using the supplied software, because it is designed specifi cally for the camera's
AVI fi les and the individual images contained in the fi les. The images can be both displayed in real time
and in fast motion.
Setting the Time and Date
The time and date are displayed automatically in the AVI video.
To set the time and date, proceed as described in chapter „Start-up, Software Installation", use
the „HomeWatchCam Setup" software, which is available on your desktop or in the start menu
after the installation.
When saving the time and date, make absolutely sure that the correct drive letter for the memory
card has been set in the software.
Tips and Notes
• The PIR motion detector does not detect the movement of an object, but it detects the change in the heat
distribution within the area to be observed.
After switching on (and after each triggering), the PIR motion detector save the heat distribution of the area
observed as a reference value. If this value changes, (e.g. a warm object, such as a cat in a cool environ-
ment) it activates the camera.
• New SD/SDHC memory cards are generally preformatted so re-formatting is not required. If you want
to format the SD/SDHC card, always use „FAT" or „FAT32" as the fi le system. However, all data on the
memory card will be lost during the formatting process.
• Make sure that the write protection on the SD card is disabled, otherwise videos cannot be saved.
• If you have deleted the software on the included SD memory card by mistake, you can download it from
the manufacturer's website www.brinno.com under „Support" (model number „MAC100").
Cleaning
Only clean the product with a soft, clean, dry and lint-free cloth. If it is very dirty, use a cloth slightly moistened
with tap water.
Clean the lens very carefully, otherwise you will leave scratch marks.
Never use aggressive cleaning agents as these can cause discolouration of the housing.
Disposal
a) Product
Electronic devices are recyclable waste materials and must not be disposed of in the household
waste!
Dispose of the unserviceable product according to the relevant statutory regulations!
b) Batteries and Rechargeable Batteries
The end user is legally obliged (Battery Regulation) to return used batteries and rechargeable batteries. Do
not dispose of used batteries in the household waste!
Contaminated batteries/rechargeable batteries are labelled with these symbols to indicate that
disposal in the domestic waste is forbidden. The symbols for the relevant heavy metals are:
Cd=cadmium, Hg=mercury, Pb=lead (the marking can be seen on the battery/rechargeable bat-
tery e.g. below the refuse bin symbol shown on the left).
You can dispose of your used batteries/rechargeable batteries free of charge at your local collection point,
our branches or anywhere where batteries/rechargeable batteries are sold!
You thereby fulfi l your statutory obligations and contribute to the protection of the environment.
