8. Inserting/replacing the battery

• Open the battery compartment by turning the round, silver battery compartment lid anti-
clockwise, e.g. with a coin, until it can be removed.
• Insert an AA battery into the battery compartment with the positive pole (+) pointing outwards
towards you.
• Put the battery compartment lid back on and lock it by turning it clockwise until it has reached
its end position.
• The battery must be exchanged if the LC display shows little contrast or weakens considerably
when the backlight is activated or when the device cannot be switched on any more. When
the battery is low, the battery symbol flashes in the top left-hand corner of the display and
a warning message is displayed.

9. Installation

a) General

Generally, three satellites are sufficient to determine the position. If more satellites are
recognised, the accuracy is increased. In addition, with 4 or more satellites the altitude can be
determined.
Please bear in mind that GPS data is intended for private, non-military use. Due to the
restrictions of the licensee (USA) the data is accurate to a couple of meters only.
So it is not unusual if the recorded data differs from the actual position.
When the recorded GPS data is applied to cartographical material from the Internet, there
might be additional deviations, so that roads/paths that are close to each other cannot be
distinguished between clearly.
When you use the GPS device, make sure the satellites are not obstructed.
Mountains, trees, houses etc. impair reception of the GPS signal which results in the detection
of fewer satellites.
Within buildings, the GPS signal cannot be received. Even if tested close to a window, the GPS
device might not receive a GPS signal.
In vehicles, make sure reception is not obstructed. Place the GPS device e.g. under the
windscreen (if the windscreen is equipped with a heating, there is probably no reception!).
