1. Validity
These safety instructions are valid for the vibrating level switches OPTISWITCH of type series 5**0C
VF10.C, VF15.C, VF11.C, VF16.C with integral oscillator SW E60NEX, acc. to the EC type approval
PTB 02 ATEX 2117 X (certificate number on the type label).
2. General
OPTISWITCH of type series 5**0C VF10.C, VF15.C, VF11.C, VF16.C with integral oscillator
SW E60NEX are used for monitoring or control of levels in hazardous areas even for combustible
liquids, gases, fogs or vapours. The vibrating level switches OPTISWITCH of type series 5**0C
VF10.C, VF15.C, VF11.C, VF16.C with integral oscillator SW E60NEX are suitable for applications in
hazardous atmospheres of all combustible materials of explosion group IIA, IIB, and IIC for
applications requiring instrumens of category 1G, 1/2 G or 2G.
Category –1- instruments
OPTISWITCH of type series 5**0C VF10.C, VF15.C, VF11.C, VF16.C with integral oscillator
SW E60NEX are installed in areas requiring instruments of category 1.
Category –1/2- instruments
The electronic housing is installed in hazardous areas in areas requiring instruments of category 2.
The process connection elements are installed in the separating wall which separates areas in which
instruments of category 2 or 1 are required. The sensor with the mechanical fitting element is installed
in hazardous areas requiring instruments of category 1.
Category –2 - instruments
Vibrating level switches OPTISWITCH are installed in hazardous areas requiring instruments of
category 2.
If the vibrating level switches OPTISWITCH of type series 5**0C VF10.C, VF15.C, VF11.C, VF16.C
with integral oscillator SW E60NEX are installed and operated in hazardous areas, the general Ex
installation regulations as well as these safety instructions have to be observed.
The installation of Ex systems must be generally made by trained personnel.
