6 Handling
WARNING
Operation of motor vehicles
Risk of accidents due to restricted body function
► Observe the applicable legal and insurance regulations for the operation of motor vehicles
and have your driving ability examined and certified by an authorised agency.
CAUTION
Excessive strain on load-bearing components
Injuries due to changes in or loss of functionality
► Only use the product for the defined area of application.
If the product has been exposed to extreme strain (e.g. due to falling), take any necessary

measures (e.g. repair, replacement, inspection by the manufacturer's customer service
etc.).

Use on more than one patient
Skin irritation, formation of eczema or infections
► Only use the orthosis on one patient.
CAUTION
Improper handling
Risk of falling due to accidentally opening or engaging the lock
► Avoid accidentally opening or engaging the lock.
► Instruct the patient in the correct handling of the orthosis joints.
CAUTION
Incorrect or excessively tight application
Risk of local pressure and constriction of blood vessels and nerves due to improper or excess­
ively tight application
► Ensure that the orthosis is applied properly and fits correctly.
CAUTION
Using orthosis without padding
Risk of local pressure points, superficial injuries or skin irritation due to skin contact with rigid or
sharp orthosis components
► Only use the orthosis with undamaged padding.
6.1 Trial walking
The Ottobock Free Walk orthosis deviates from conventional orthosis designs. This means that
patients who have been using a conventional orthosis for a long time, in particular, will have to
learn the principle.
