4 Operation and control

DANGER
Risk of explosion for devices with local communication
interface (LCI)
A local communication interface (LCI) may not be operated in
hazardous areas.
• Never use the local communication interface (LCI) on the
main board in a hazardous area!
General remarks
Requirements
A USB interface (1.1/2.0/3.0) is required to connect the LCI
adapter to a Windows PC.
Driver
No drivers are needed if you are using a PC with Windows
version 7 or higher.
For older Windows versions, a suited virtual COM port driver
needs to be downloaded from the website of FTDI
(http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm) and installed.
Operation
1. Insert the USB plug of the LCI adapter into a free USB
connection on the PC / laptop.
The LCI adapter will be recognized as a virtual COM interface.
2. Insert the LCI plug of the LCI adapter into the local
communication interface of the device to be configured.
3. Launch the configuration software for the device. If
necessary, the correct COM interface of the LCI adapter
needs to be selected in the configuration software.

5 Maintenance

The device does not require any maintenance with intended use
under normal operating conditions.

6 Recycling and disposal

Note
Products that are marked with this symbol may not be
disposed of through municipal garbage collection
points.
This product and its packaging are manufactured from materials
that can be recycled by specialist recycling companies.
Bear the following points in mind when disposing of them:
• This product is not subject to WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU or
relevant national laws (e.g. ElektroG in Germany).
• The product must be surrendered to a specialist recycling
company. Do not use municipal garbage collection points.
Only privately used products may be disposed of in the
municipal garbage according to the WEEE directive
2012/19/EU
• If it is not possible to dispose of old equipment properly, ABB
Service can take receipt of and dispose of returns for a fee.
