13. Appendix: Retrofitting the FS20 transmitter

To retrofit available and retrofittable transmitters, you require a photo diode type SFH 203 FA
as well as soldering skills.
Attention!
All warranty and guaranty claims will be void when retrofitting a device.
The retrofitting work has to be documented and this documentation has
to be passed on to third parties when surrendering the device. You will be
regarded as manufacturer when performing this work, including all
liabilities.
In case of mains operated devices, retrofitting work including all installation
and connection work may only be carried out by authorized and qualified
personnel (e.g. electricians). You must observe the pertinent safety and
VDE regulations!
Improper work carried out at the mains voltage endangers not only your
life but also the life of others! Mortal danger through an electric shock!
In case of unqualified tampering with the device, you may incur additional
risks, e.g. the destruction of the device.
In case of doubt, do not perform such work yourself and leave it up to an
expert instead!
With one exception, the conversion of the transmitters is limited to soldering in a photo diode.
Retrofitting is therefore possible without major efforts.
Observe the correct polarity when soldering in the photo diode. The cathode is indicated by
the flat housing side and the shorter connection pin.
With some transmitters, the photo diode can be installed in such a way that it can also be
programmed in installed state. Others however first have to be programmed with the
"FS20IRP" and then installed again.
It is up to you whether and where you drill in additional holes in the housing for retrospective
programming via infrared beam (of course with exception of watertight transmitters for outdoor
application!). In practice, one programming operation is most often sufficient on practice. In
case of a task change, dismantling and remantling the transmitter is a matter of seconds.
In addition, all programmed commands are saved even in case of a power loss so that
reprogramming is not required in this case.
