OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR DC JUNCTION BOX IG 15/30
GENERAL REMARKS
The DC junction box IG 15/30 is designed to be used in grid-
connected photovoltaic installations that have several strings of
solar modules. It is used for pooling up to 4 solar-module strings at
the input, and dividing them up into one DC+ and one DC- main lead
each at the output. In between, there is a DC isolator with a load-
switching capability; this makes it possible to isolate the inverter so
that it is electrically dead before service work is performed. The DC
isolator is suitable for a maximum open-circuit voltage of 530V DC
and can also be actuated under load in emergencies. Operator
safety is assured under all circumstances.
The DC junction box was specially designed for FRONIUS IG 15 /
20 and 30 as well as for SUNRISE inverters. As these already have
an integral overvoltage protector on the DC input side, there is no
need for any surge-voltage protectors in the DC junction box. This
means that it may well be dangerous to use other inverters, as
these may not have the integral overvoltage protection that
FRONIUS IG and SUNRISE inverters all come with! Because the
DC junction box has "Degree of protection IP 54", it can be erected
in sheltered outdoor locations without difficulty. The DC junction
box must not be exposed to direct sunlight or other climatic
influences.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING! Solar modules can create fatally
hazardous voltages! When they are installed, then,
special precautions must be taken in order to ensure
safe operation:
- Installation work may only be carried out by suitably trained and
skilled electricians!
- The isolation cover inside the DC junction box must be fitted in
place when the installation work is finished.
- The DC junction box must not be mounted in locations subject to
explosion hazards.
- The module cables may only be connected up to the terminal box
after they have been made electrically dead. For this reason,
interrupt the module circuit somewhere else when connecting up
the terminals or cover up the modules.
- The DC voltage of the photovoltaic installation may not be higher
than 530V in open circuit!
- The cover of the DC junction box must always be closed! It may
only be opened when the DC isolator needs to be actuated!
- Before carrying out repairs and maintenance, always disconnect
the inverter on the mains side (AC side) first, and only then open
the DC isolator.
- Do not remove the isolating cover from inside the DC junction
box.
- Only actuate the DC isolator in open circuit - i.e. always disconnect
on the mains side (e.g. the inverter) first.
- The cabling inside the DC junction box must be earth fault proof
and short-circuit proof!
- After the connection of all cables has been finished all cables of
the DC+ side have to be connected together by cable straps.
- Finally all cables on the DC- side have to be fixed together by
cable straps as well.
HOW TO INSTALL
Preparatory steps
- At the top of the DC junction box, knock out as many openings
for M16 metric screwed conduits as there are module strings
- At the bottom of the DC junction box, knock out 2 openings for the
two DC main leads. Also knock out an opening for the breather
plug, and insert this straight away.
- Mount the M16 metric screwed conduits for the module strings
and DC main leads
- Using screws and dowels, fasten the DC junction box to the wall
at the rupture joints provided
- Shift the DC isolator to OFF
