wedge and then the flexion wedge. For removal
please proceed in the reverse order.
1 Your knee brace is provided with pre-installed
0° extension wedges.
2 In order to change the wedges, press the joint
cover on the rear side (see profile) outwards.
3. You can change the wedges by removing the
tweezers from the joint cover and pulling the
wedges forwards (extension) or backwards
(flexion) out of the joint using the tweezers.
The wedges are accordingly labelled with
„FLEX" or „EXT" and the corresponding
degree. The wedges may also be
distinguished by the colour. Extension
wedges are silver, flexion wedges are black.
Push the new wedge from the front side
(extension) or from the back (flexion) into the
joint, so the markings „UP" on the joint and
the wedge are matched accordingly. Upon
proper locking you will hear a click sound.
4. Move the joints of the orthosis to check the
position of the wedges. Put the tweezers back
into the mounting and attach the joint covers
by hooking the two noses of the joint cover
into the front side of the joint and then
pushing the cover onto the joint. The cover is
firmly attached if you hear a click sound.
Important notes
Only change the extension and flexion limits on
instruction from your doctor or orthotist. In
order to prevent hyperextension, always insert
extension wedges or 0° wedges. The wedges
define the exact excursion of the orthosis. In
difficult soft-tissue conditions, e.g. where the
soft-tissues are under compression, it may be
necessary to insert the larger wedge to limit the
joint movement to the desired excursion. In
addition, make sure that the orthosis joints are
correctly positioned: the middles of the joints
should be level with the upper border of the
patella. The joint must lie behind the midline of
the leg (Fig.12).
Shaping the orthosis
When shaping the orthosis, please ensure that
the joints stay parallel. This guarantees that the
orthosis will function well and run easily and
that there is no excessive wear.
Locking mechanism
WARNING! The locking mechanism only works if
a 0° extension wedge is inserted. With other
wedge settings the lock mechanism does not
work. The mechanism's slider can be pulled off.
When reattaching the slider, make sure that it is
pushed in again from behind with the green side
first.
Fastening the belt eyes
The belt eyes have been adequately fastened
and are, to some extent, deliberately mobile.
Please do not tighten the screws; they are tight
enough. If you apply too much force, you can
break off the screws.
Fitting instructions
• Whenever possible, put on the knee brace in
the extended position. To do so, set the knee
brace to the extended position and lock both
joints by moving the slider forward (you can
see a red area in the windows on the joints);
see Figures 1+2.
• Open all the straps. Sit on the edge of a chair
and put the brace on. Position the brace so
that the centre of the hinges (silver wedges)
are on a level with the top edge of the kneecap
(Fig. 9). Make sure that the brace is not twisted
on your leg.
• First fasten the lower front strap #1 (Fig. 4),
then the upper rear thigh strap #2 (Fig. 5).
Position the two joints close to your joint
towards the front of the leg (Fig. 6).
• Now fasten the lower rear thigh strap #3 (Fig.
7). Pull the joints slightly forward again. Make
sure that you do not pull the joints in front of
the midline of the leg.
• Now fasten the upper front calf strap #4 (Fig.
8), then the upper back calf strap #5 (Fig. 9 +
12), and finally the front thigh strap #6 (Fig.
10).
Care instructions
The brace cannot be worn in saltwater. If the
brace is worn in chlorinated water, it should be
rinsed out thoroughly with clean water
afterwards. The pads are water-repellent;
nevertheless, they should be wiped off and
dried briefly after you take a shower – the same
