Cleaning and sterilisation
Cleaning: before using for the first time and after each use
•
Dismantle the Ardo Melia into its individual parts
•
Rinse all parts (except for the pump motor, b) in cold tap water for 1 minute
•
Then clean using a mild dish soap and warm water (not over +40 ºC)
•
Rinse using lots of clean water.
Warnings:
o Take care when removing and cleaning the lip valve (h), as the Ardo Melia will no longer work correctly if it is dam-
aged.
o To clean the lip valve (h), please rub it gently in warm water with a couple of drops of dish soap.
Do not put any objects into the lip valve, as this may lead to damage. Do not clean the lip valve with a washing-up
brush or similar utensils.
•
Alternatively, you can clean the parts in their dismantled state (apart from the pump motor, b) in the dishwasher.
•
Drying: Place all the parts on a clean, unused tea towel or paper towel and leave them to air dry thoroughly in a clean
place.
Sterilisation: 1× daily after cleaning
•
Boil all the parts (apart from the pump motor, b) in their dismantled state for 5 minutes.
•
Ensure that there is enough water in the saucepan (the parts must be fully submerged in water); deformations can occur if
there is not enough water.
•
Alternatively, you can sterilise the parts in an Ardo Easy Clean bag in the microwave.
•
After sterilisation, leave the parts on a clean surface to air dry thoroughly.
Check the individual parts for cracks and changes to the surface after each cleaning and sterilisation process. If you notice chang-
es, replace the defective part.
Pump motor: Do not rinse or submerge the pump motor (b) in water. If needed, wipe with a clean cloth moistened with 70%
alcohol (ethanol or isopropanol).

The right size of breast shell
A suitable breast shell (a) is needed to express successfully. If the breast shell is too big or too small, this may cause sore nipples
and may be painful. You should therefore use the right breast shell size for you or an appropriate insert (e).
The size is right if:
•
in the funnel there is around 2 mm space free around the nipple.
•
the nipple moves freely in the funnel during expressing and can follow the rhythmic movements of the pump.
•
there is no areolar tissue in the funnel.
•
the milk flows and the breast feels soft all over after expressing.
