General aspects
The automatic skimmer 3110/2 made by TUNZE Aquarientechnik
GmbH has been designed especially for use in marine aquariums
up to a content of 180 l.
These Instructions for use describe the skimmer only. Separate
instructions for use are applicable for the pump 210.04 employed.
Safety instructions
- The skimmer may be operated in an aquarium only. Do not
use outside.
- Before connecting up the unit, please check whether the
operating voltage corresponds to the mains voltage available.
- Operation is permitted only with a residual-current-operated
circuit-breaker fitted (30 mA).
- When working in the aquarium, completely disconnect all units
used from the mains.
- Pumps with a damaged mains cable have to be replaced - by
no means repair ! Danger of electric shock !
- Maximum water temperature in the aquarium: +35° Celsius
(95° F).
- Keep these Instructions for use for later check-ups.
Selecting the position
When positioning the unit in the aquarium, the following points
have to be observed:
- The skimmer cup has to be easily accessible.
- For emptying, the skimmer cup has to be easily removed to
the top.
- The overall height of the skimmer cup inclusive of the pipe
socket is 165 mm (6.49 in.).
Attachment
The skimmer is supplied ready for mounting. The scope of delivery
contains two suction cup holding units and one frame holding device.
In mounting, please observe that the skimmer housing protrudes
about 1 cm (.39 in.) above the water surface (minimum 0 cm (0 in.)
/ maximum 2 cm (.78 in.).

devices.
Initial operation
- Completely close the air regulating screws, and subsequently
unscrew by three turns again.
- Check after some days of running-in whether the foam settles
in the middle of the pipe, and is removed into the skimmer cup
in regular intervals.
- If this is not the case, turn the air regulating screw in such a
way that the requested skimming action is produced.
Ozone connection
The use of small amounts of ozone may lead to an increase in
performance of our high-performance skimmers. A silicon air hose
4 x 1.5 mm (.05 in.) may be connected to one of the two nipples on
the upper side of the skimmer housing for ozone connection. The
air pump used should be set to 50 l/h and the ozoniser to 3 mg/h.
Note:
Uncontrolled and continuous use of ozone may lead to health
damage as well as to damage of the electric and plastic parts (=
material embrittlement).
Emptying the skimmer cup
- Empty and clean the skimmer cup once a week.
- Remove the skimmer cup completely.
- Turn the lid counter-clockwise up to the stop, and remove
upwards.
- After emptying, rinse the skimmer cup with fresh water.
- Subsequently use the brush supplied to thoroughly clean. Do
not touch the inside of the skimmer cup with the fingers as the
sebaceous grease on the housing parts of the skimmer will
cause a prolonged starting-up phase.
- Place the skimmer cup again. As a rule, the skimmer will
resume its usual performance after a few hours. After extensi-
ve cleaning work in the aquarium, the starting-up phase may
last for some days.
Cleaning
Regular cleaning is part of the operational safety of the skimmer.
We recommend to thoroughly clean the unit every six months. In
case of unfavourable conditions, such as lime deposits on the pump
or housing, a lot of mud, and in case of decreasing performance,
the intervals have to be shortened.
Please check the parts for damage, and replace them, if necessary.
Disassembly of the skimmer
For cleaning and/or replacement of damaged parts, please proceed
as follows:
Press in the snap-in nose of the pump holding plate, and in
doing so pull away the pump holding plate from the housing.
By slightly turning, remove the nipple along with the air hose
from the nozzle.
Lift the pump from the four resting points. Remove the mains
cable from the guide system.
Pull off the preliminary nozzle (brown) with pipe and the nozzle
(white) from the pump socket; if necessary, use brush for
cleaning. Please make sure that the nozzles do not scratch. If
lime has deposited, place in lime remover and use a brush for
cleaning.
Place the mains cable in the guide system of the pump holding
plate without twisting; ensure sufficient length !
Place the pump on the retaining points, and permit to snap in
by exerting slight pressure; observe correct cable position !
By slightly turning, place the nipple with the air hose (air
connection) in the assembled nozzles; ensure tight fit !
Place and snap in the holding plate with pump in the skimmer
housing; observe cable outlet in the process !
Guarantee
Your TUNZE unit carries a guarantee of twelve months after the
date of purchase covering all material and workmanship defects.
Defective units should be returned well-packed, together with the
sales slip, to the retailer or the manufacturer.
Exclusion from guarantee
The guarantee does not cover any claims for compensation beyond
the unit itself. Any damage caused by incorrect handling, or any
technical modifications made by the purchaser, irrespective of their
nature, or any damage caused by the use of concentrated acids
and alkaline solutions or any kind of solvent, shall not be covered
under this guarantee.
Subject to technical modifications, especially those which further
safety and technical progress.
