Preparing the machine
Remove the left or right needle respectively.
Use the tension setting for a 3-thread overlock seam as the initial setting.
Then slightly adjust the upper thread tension for the upper looper
(orange).
Next adjust the thread tension of the lower looper (yellow) to a signifi-
cantly tighter setting.

Sewing a flatlock seam as a cover stitch
Place the fabric pieces on top of each other with the reverse sides facing,
to sew a decorative seam on the face side of the garment.
Now sew the seam and cut off excess fabric.
The upper thread (green/blue thread tension) will have a V-pattern on
the reverse side of the fabric.
The lower looper thread will be a straight line along the edge of the
fabric.
Pull open the pieces you are sewing to each side of the seam so the
stitches are flat.
Sewing a flatlock seam as a decorative seam
Bring the moving upper knife to the rest position. When using this seam
the edges of the pieces being sewn will not be cut.
Turn over the piece so the two reverse sides are facing.
Position the piece so part of the seam will be sewn beyond the piece.
Pull open the pieces you are sewing to each side of the seam so the
stitches are flat.

Additional information about flatlock seams
The thread tensions must be adjusted cor-
rectly to allow the pieces to be pulled open.
The upper looper thread is the most impor-
tant thread in a flatlock seam. Therefore use
a decorative thread as the upper looper
thread and inconspicuous threads as the
lower looper- and needle thread.
To sew the ladder stitch on the reverse, place
the pieces with the face sides facing. In this case the needle thread is the
most obvious thread, as it forms the ladder A.
Overlock blind hems
This will trim excess fabric, sew the seam and apply an overlock seam to
the edges, all in one step.
The overlock blind hem is best suited for knit fabrics. It creates a durable
clean edge which is virtually invisible.
Remove the left needle and set the machine up for a narrow 3-thread
overlock seam.
Note: You can also use the 3-thread flatlock stitch.
Set the stitch length to 4.
First fold the hem over to the reverse, then to the face side of the fabric so
the fabric edge protrudes 6 mm beyond the first fold.
Sew along the fabric fold. The needle must insert straight into the edge
of the fold.
Pin-tucks
Before cutting the garment you can sew decorative pin-tucks onto the
fabric.
Remove the left needle and set the machine up for a narrow 3-thread
overlock stitch.
Note: the rolled hem stitch can also be used for this technique.
Bring the upper knife to the rest position.
Mark the desired number of pin-tucks on the fabric with a water-soluble
fabric marker.
