OPERATE
Switch on at the mains supply socket.
Video display after connecting the mains supply
(Note:
The VTR will be in the standby mode at
this stage.)
If the display is as shown in step 4 (TV programme
number, tape speed indicator, and so on), press
the OPERATE button on the VTR once.
Switch on your TV and select an unused UHF
programme number (usually UHF channel 37).
Please consult your TV operating guide as your TV
may have a special video programme number
which must be used.
Note:
This programme
number will be your video
programme
number from now on.
Press the button [> (Note: The VTR is still in the
standby mode) and " & € 5t" appears as shown in
the display.
Tune your TV (consult your TV instruction
manual) until the test pattern shown appears.
The correct tuning position is when the picture is
clear. Ensure this programme is stored in your
TV.
Press the button again [> , the test pattern will
disappear and the VTR will now transfer from the
standby mode to the operate mode.
You should now be able to playback a pre-
recorded cassette.
Insert the cassette carefully (see page 19 for
CASSETTE TAPES).
If the safety tab is removed
then playback will start automatically, without
pressing the © button and the picture will appear
on the screen.

If you cannot correctly tune your TV to the test
signal, or there is noise in the signal, it may be
necessary to change the VTR's RF channel.
Slightly turn the RF CHANNEL ADJ control at the
rear of your VTR with a small screwdriver.
Re-tune your TV. If the test signal has not
improved, turn the screw a little more and re-tune
your TV again until a clear test picture is received.

Turn on the TV and the VTR, then tune the TV to
the video programme number as described on
page 14 or video input mode.
Press the MENU button.
The menu, as illustrated, appears on the TV
screen.
Note:
If you connect with TV via 21 pin Scart
cable, press the VTR/TV button to turn the VTR
indicator on.
Press button ©.
The menu disappears from the TV screen and the
CHANNEL PRESET display will appear on the TV
screen.
Press the TV PROG button to select the desired
programme number (01 through 69) you want to
start auto tuning.
Press button
@
to start searching for a TV
station broadcasting a signal.
When a station that is broadcasting a signal is
reached, the picture appears on the TV screen for
approx. 5 seconds. The VTR will automatically
store the station in memory, then the VTR will
start searching for the next station.
Notes:
* Button
@® is used when the VTR is connecting
a Channel Plus decoder.
See pages 61 and 62 for details.

If you want quicker tuning during this time,
press the > or CJ button.
—lIf the picture displayed is from a station you
require, press the (C button to store it in
memory.
The programme number will change to the
next higher number automatically and the
VTR will start searching for the next station.
—lf the pucture displayed is not from a station
to be preset, press the (} button. The VTR
will start searching for the next station.
The channel number stops changing in the VTR's
display panal when the VTR has finished auto
tuning.

disappears from the display.)
Now, you can use the TV PROG buttons to see
what channels are in memory.
