Inserting and Removing the Battery Pack
from the Tool (Fig. A)
nOTE: Make sure your battery pack
To Install the Battery Pack into the
Tool Handle
1. Align the battery pack

with the rails inside the tool's
handle (Fig. A).
2. Slide it into the handle until the battery pack is firmly seated
in the tool and ensure that you hear the lock snap into place.
To Remove the Battery Pack from the Tool
1. Press the release button

out of the tool handle.
2. Insert battery pack into the charger as described in the
charger section of this manual.
Fuel Gauge Battery Packs (Fig. B)
Some D
WALT battery packs include a fuel gauge which
e
consists of three green LED lights that indicate the level of
charge remaining in the battery pack.
To actuate the fuel gauge, press and hold the fuel gauge
button

. A combination of the three green LED lights will
illuminate designating the level of charge left. When the level
of charge in the battery is below the usable limit, the fuel gauge
will not illuminate and the battery will need to be recharged.
nOTE: The fuel gauge is only an indication of the charge left on
the battery pack. It does not indicate tool functionality and is
subject to variation based on product components, temperature
and end-user application.
Remove and Replace Parts (Fig. A, C, D)
To remove shear head from motor:
1. Loosen three cap screws

To remove cutter blades from shear head:

To remove eccentric bearing assembly from shaft, use
an appropriate wrench to loosen eccentric nut
anti clockwise.
To install eccentric bearing assembly onto shaft, make
sure the large, thin washer

Screw eccentric bearing assembly onto shaft and tighten with
appropriate wrench. Lubricate bearing
bearing grease.
To install cutter blades into shear housing:
1. Place the side knives

and side spacers
in the shear housing

2. Insert centre cap screw through side knife and side spacer
with rear spacer bushing between them.
3. Start cap screw into thread just enough to hold blades in
place. DO NOT TIGHTEN.
4. Insert spacer bushing into hole in centre blade and lubricate.
5. Install centre blade into shear housing by tapping blade
gently forward using a drift pin to line up hole in centre
blade with forward holes in housing.
6. Insert and tighten forward cap screw making sure spacer
bushing in centre blade stays in position.
7. Apply a good grade of bearing grease to blade assembly
around middle cap screw/spacer bushing.
8. Insert rear cap screw into shear housing but do not
completely tighten.
To install shear head assembly onto drive motor:
1. With all cap screws loosened by about 3 or 4 complete
turns, place shear head onto unit nOTE: It may be necessary
to gently tap the shear head into place if it does not readily
slip onto the nose of the power unit.
2. Tighten cap screws snugly to lock head assembly in place.
Swivel Head (Fig. A, D)
To better accommodate safe cutting at any angle, the shear
head can be easily and quickly repositioned.
1. Press and hold the collar release button
2. Rotate the head and collar
3. Release the collar release button
nOTE: Continue rotating the head until it clicks into the
nearest locking detent position.
To adjust the curl of waste material, the left side knife has
elongated holes. Adjustment may be necessary after changing
blades or material being cut. Loosen cap screws and tap side
