A GENERAL
Please read these instructions thoroughly before using this product and follow all the information
contained within. Failure to observe these instructions can lead to a reduction in the protection this
product provides.
Please note: mountain climbing and indoor climbing are high-risk sports which can involve unforesee-
able dangers. Your decisions and activities in this sport are your own responsibility. Please familiarise
yourself with all associated risks before attempting climbing of any sort. DYNAFIT recommends that
before attempting any climbing, you should obtain training and advice from suitably qualified persons (for
example mountain guides or climbing teachers). In addition it is the user's responsibility to keep himself
or herself informed of the correct techniques for carrying out safe rescue operations. The manufacturer
bears no liability in the case of any misuse or abuse of this product. Also check for the appropriate
certification of all other pieces of equipment.
This product is made in conformity with PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and with Regulation 2016/425
on personal protective equipment as brought into UK law and amended
You can view the EU/UK Declaration of Conformity under www.dynafit.com.
The product meets the second category for personal protective equipment (PPE).
B INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
The Dynafit DNA and Mezzalama are light crampons, developed for ski-mountaineering activities such
as movement on snow and ice-covered terrain and to minimise the risk of slipping while progressing on
those surfaces. It meets the requirements of standard EN893:2019.Note, we do not recommend the
use of a full aluminium crampon (DNA) on rocky terrain as the wear out fast and reduce the grip on
snow-covered surfaces, while the hybrid aluminium/steel version (Mezzalama) is also suitable on rocky
terrain. Only use the product for the purpose for which it was constructed and never burden it beyond
its limits.
: Danger to life
: Risk of injury
: Correct use
The correct use is shown in diagram B.
WARNING: We have not shown all possible misuses.
WARNING: Misuse of this tool can lead to severe injury, falls and even death. You must be aware of this
and should only use this tool if you master its correct use.
Components:
a) Front part
b) Rear part
c) Rocker lever attachment
d) Connection cable
e) Adjustment system
f) Toe bail
g) Strap
h) Closure buckle
Compatibility:
Ensure that you only use products which are compatible with the crampon, this is in particular true
for ski boots and other crampon-compatible shoes with corresponding heel on the reverse of the shoe
which enables attachment.
Size adaption
(please refer to the graph):
If needed, adjust the connection cable (d) on the front part (a) adjustment system (e) using a wrench
5.5 or the HEX 5.5 stamped into the crampon. Remove the connection cable (d) with a 180° twist from
the rear part (b), now adjust the size using the holes on the adjustment system (e).Do not use the last
two holes and take care, that the connection cable (d) is properly hooked in. For the correct sizing have
a look at the chart.
Attachment of the crampon to the shoe (see graph):
For this, thread the foot in the adapted crampon and close the respective closure system so that
the rocker lever attachment (c) clicks firmly into place or the baskets are placed without play.
The connection cable (d) must be tensioned tautly. If this is not the case, adapt the size again.
Guide the strap (g) around the shoe, regulate its length and close the closure buckle (h) by interlocking
it. Tighten the belt. The closure buckle should be located centrally at the front of the shoe uppers.
Check its fit by standing on it, rotating your foot when standing, kicking against it at the front and the
rear and therefore burdening and unburdening the crampon several times over. If a firm fit is not guar-
anteed, check the size setting and whether rocker lever attachment (c) is correctly engaged on the shoe.
ATTENTION: Make sure, that there is no snow or ice in between the connection points, crampon/shoe.
Poorly set or negligently attaches crampons can loosen when the shoe is used. Therefore, check all the
components prior to and during use.
WARNING: When walking on snow, the danger exists that the snow beneath the crampon freezes fast
and that you slip over; ensure that you avert this risk by being careful and checking regularly. If you
are facing increased problems, use anti-balling plates, included on the Mezzalama and available as
accessory for the DNA crampon.
C SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Before use, carefully check each product part. Diagram C
Double check all the components of this product for wear marks, chips, frayed or singed fibres, attrition,
bends and corrosion, and replace if needed.
WARNING
High temperatures, sharp edges and contact with chemicals (for example acids) must be completely
avoided, due the drastic effect on the safety and performance of the crampons.
The instructions for use supplied with the product are always to be stored with the product. This product
is only to be used by appropriately trained and/or competent persons, or when the user is under the
direct supervision of such a qualified person.
WARNING
- If there is the least doubt about the safety of the product, it is to be replaced immediately.
- Any change to this product can reduce safety significantly.
D LIFESPAN
The lifespan of the product is dependent on a number of factors, such as the manner and frequency of
use, UV exposure, moisture, ice, affects of weather, storage conditions, and dirt (sand, salt, etc.). Under
extreme conditions the lifespan can be reduced to a single usage or even less, if the equipment has
suffered damage (for example during transport) before ever being used. Please note: Products manu-
factured from synthetic fibres are subject to ageing even when not used. This ageing depends mainly on
environmental conditions as well as the impact of UV light.
Indications of the product's maximum lifespan:
Never: Correct storage:
up to 10 years since production
Once or twice a year: up to 7 years
Once a month: up to 5 years
More times a month: up to 3 years
Every week: up to 1 year
Almost daily: up to 1/2 a year
The potential lifespan of metal products is unlimited, however as the actual lifespan depends on the
previously named factors, Dynafit recommends exchanging the product always after 10 years.
E CLEANING, STORAGE, TRANSPORT AND SERVICING
See diagram E for guidelines on correct storage and care.
Do not store close to sources of heat, or at extreme temperatures or subject to mechanical force (with
kinks, under compressive load, under tension) The product should NEVER come in contact with corro-
sive chemicals such as battery acid, solvents, or chemical salts.
Ensure that the product is kept safe during storage and transport and is protected from damage.
If necessary (e.g. contact with dirt or saline water), wash the product in lukewarm water and and rinse
with clear water (max. 30°). Make sure that the product does not come into contact with chemicals.
Leave to dry at room temperature.
The product may neither be modified nor be repaired.
Feel whether the spikes on the crampon are still sharp. If they are blunt, they must be carefully resharp-
ened. Use a file for this and not a grinding machine (please refer to the graph).
