Operators and other personnel must always wear protection for eyes, ears, and respiratory protection
l
when in the work area or while operating this product. Follow your employer's safety policy for PPE or
local/national standards for eyewear and other personal protective equipment requirements.
Wear protective apparel, taking into consideration the type of work being done.
l
Proper eye protection must be worn at all times.
l
Only personnel who are properly trained should be allowed to service this tool.
l
Never allow this tool to be used by untrained people. Prior to use, inspect abrasive product, mounting
l
hardware, accessories and safety features for possible damage. If damaged, replace with new abras-
ive product, mounting hardware, accessories and safety features available from 3M.
Read, understand and follow the safety information contained in these instructions prior to the use of
l
this tool. Retain these instructions for future reference.
Do not modify this power tool or the safety features including, but not limited to, guards and safety
l
levers. Modifications may reduce the effectiveness of safety measures and increase the risks to the
operator.
Never operate this tool without all safety features in place and in proper working order. Including, but
l
not limited to, guards and safety levers.
Never over-ride or disable the safety features of the start-stop control such that it is in the on position.
l
Only use abrasive product, accessories, mounting hardware, and safety features supplied or recom-
l
mended by 3M.
Prior to use, ensure guard is oriented to protect the operator from flying fragments and is properly se-
l
cured.
If the tool is jammed, shut off the tool and ease it free. Ensure the abrasive product is correctly se-
l
cured.
Never use a damaged power tool until it has been repaired.
l
Prior to use, or if dropped or jammed, inspect wheel retainers and wheel arbors and abrasive product
l
for possible chips, cracks or other damage, and ensure the abrasive product is correctly secured. If
damaged, or if safety labels cannot be read, replace with new abrasive product, wheel retainers,
wheel arbors and/or labels available from 3M.
Check with 3M for mounting hardware requirements.
l
Do not use a cutting-off wheel for side-grinding.
l
The grinding surface of centre depressed wheels must be mounted below the guard lip such that the
l
wheel is contained within the guard. An improperly mounted wheel that projects through the plane of
the guard lip cannot be adequately protected.
To reduce the risks associates with overhead work:
On overhead work, wear a safety helmet and protect from falling debris.
l
Be aware of environment and bystanders below grinding application if working on a platform.
l
To reduce the risks associated with hazardous dust ingestion or eye/skin exposure:
Dusts and fumes generated when using power tools can cause ill health (for example: cancer, birth
l
defects, asthma and/or dermatitis); risk assessment of these hazards and implementation of appropri-
ate controls is essential.
Risk assessment should include dust created by the use of the tool and the potential for disturbing ex-
l
isting dust.
Operate and maintain the power tool as recommended in these instructions, to minimize dust or fume
l
emissions.
Where dusts or fumes are created, the priority shall be to control them at the point of emission.
l
All integral features or accessories for the collection, extraction or suppression of airborne dust or
l
fumes should be correctly used and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Select, maintain and replace the consumable as recommended in these instructions, to prevent an
l
unnecessary increase in dust or fumes.
Use respiratory protection as instructed by your employer and as required by occupational health and
l
safety regulations.
Use dust capture or local exhaust as stated in the SDS of the material being worked on. Wear govern-
l
ment approved respirator protection and eye and skin protection. - Failure to follow this warning can
result in serious lung damage and/or physical injury.
