3 Safety instructions
3.5.1

Handling the encoder

 Do not hit or step on the housing or the shaft.
 Do not open the encoder and do not dismantle it.
 Only mount the encoder as described in these operating instructions.
 Keep the shaft load as low as possible to obtain an adequate bearing life.
3.5.2

Entry of water

The sealing of the encoder depends on the sealing between hollow shaft and rotor shaft.
If the sealing is inadequate, water can enter the encoder via the hollow shaft.
For this reason the encoder is sealed with O-rings at 2 points in the rotor side. One O-
ring is on the rotor shaft, the second is in the hollow shaft.

 During mounting ensure the O-rings are sitting correctly so that the hollow shaft is
correctly sealed.
 Ensure the sealing surface on the rotor shaft is free of dirt.
3.5.3

Foreign bodies in the housing

The blanking plug must be removed for mounting. Foreign bodies, for example particles
of dirt can enter the encoder through the open hole and damage the encoder.
Ensure no foreign bodies fall through the hole into the housing.
If a functional encoder is removed, e.g., for an inspection:
 Clean the encoder housing and the blanking plug prior to removal.
 After removal seal the hole by screwing in the blanking plug so that no foreign bodies
can fall into the housing during temporary storage.
