Operation

Cable break detection

To activate the cable break detection, change
to voltage test mode. Cable break detection is
intended for non-contact detection of cable
breaks on non-exposed, voltage-carrying lines.
If the metal clip (1) (on the rear side of the
Testboy TV 800 from the feed point via a live
®
line (> 110 V AC) is held, the "L" LED (2) illu-
minates until the fracture point
A test line does not need to be connected.
A voltage flow is not required. The metal clip
functions as an extended sensor.
Do not bring the metal clip into contact with in-
sulated, dangerous live lines which can cause
electric shocks, electric burns or electric arcs.
If the "L" LED does not illuminate when the cable break detection is being performed,
a dangerous high voltage (> 33 V AC or 70 V DC) can still be present. The non-contact
sensor can only detect voltages generated by sufficiently strong voltage fields (electricity
grid, >110 V AC). Given weaker field strengths, it is possible that the instrument does not
detect the voltage applied and is thus unable to locate the cable break. Failure of the in-
strument to detect a voltage can result from a number of factors, including:
- Screened lines/wires
- The thickness and type of insulation
- The distance from the voltage source
- The condition of the test instrument and batteries
WARNING
Exercise caution with voltages over 30 V due to the risk of electric shock.
