5.4 Lifting load

DANGER
The operator must make sure that other uninvolved
personnel on all sides of the load maintain a safety
distance 1.5 times the height of the load. If there is
a risk that uninvolved persons could enter the danger
area unprotected, the danger area must be suitable
cordoned off. Failure to do so can result in injury or
even fatal accidents.
DANGER
Never lift the load on one side up to the ground
clearance since there is a considerable risk of tilting and
slipping here.
WARNING
If the height of the load exceeds the length of the side
to be lifted, appropriate safety precautions must be
taken in order to prevent the load from toppling over.
This applies in particular to machines in which the
centre of gravity is located in the upper half of the load.
Inform yourself about the dimensions of the load and
determine the centre of gravity to prevent injuries.
WARNING
There is a risk of crushing when using
tandem trolleys with the load to be lifted.
Always wear your personal protective
equipment; see page 5. Make sure you
handle the devices properly.

5.4.1 General

The centre of gravity must always lie closer to the
trolley.
Lifting height
With large lifting heights, take care to work step by
step. One-sided lifting and lowering steps of more than
30 mm are not allowed. To secure the load during
stepwise changeover, suitable underlying supports,
preferably made of steel or hardwood, must be used for
the weight of the load. This particularly applies to loads
with a high centre of gravity or small floor space.
Lifting/lowering
By lifting/lowering millimetre by millimetre, check
whether any unintentional load displacements or
deformations occur at the support points. Only lift the
load after doing this.
