INTENDED USE

To warm and humidify carbon dioxide (CO
control device prior to entry to the surgical cavity.
Patient Profile
Patients of all ages undergoing laparoscopic, open
abdominal or open cardiothoracic surgical procedures
where (CO
) insufflation can be used.

Operator Profile
To be operated by a healthcare professional with
experience in the set-up of surgical equipment.
General Precautions
• Only use devices and accessories approved by
Fisher & Paykel Healthcare. Unathorized devices and
accessories may impair performance or compromise
patient safety.
• Monitor patient temperature throughout the procedure
and adjust patient warming protocols to prevent
hyperthermia or hypothermia.
Warning
• Do not immerse in liquid, to avoid the risk of
electric shock.
• Connect to a supply mains with a protective earth,
to avoid risk of electric shock.
• To avoid the risk of Electromagnetic interference, avoid
stacking humidifier on other equipment. See Page 4 for
appropriate distances from other equipment.
• Portable RF communications equipment including
antennas, can effect medical electrical equipment and
should therefore be used no closer than 12 cm to any
part of the SH870 System including cables.
• Other cables and accessories may negatively affect
Electromagnetic Compatibility performance.
• The operation of high frequency surgical apparatus,
short wave or microwave equipment in the vicinity
of the humidifier may adversely affect its function.
If this occurs, the humidifier should be removed from
the vicinity of such devices.

CONTROLS AND INDICATORS

1. Standby/On. Pressing this button turns the humidifier
on or stand-by
2. On Indicator. A solid light indicates that the humidifier
is on.
3. Heater-wire Adaptor Plug Indicator. A flashing light
indicates that the heater-wire plug is disconnected.
4. Flow Out/Water Out Indicator. A flashing light
indicates that the chamber requires refilling and/or the
gas supply is running low. Check both the chamber
water level and gas supply.
5. Hardware Fault Indicator. A flashing or solid light
indicates a fault with the humidifier and it therefore
requires servicing. Please refer to the SH870 Product
Technical Manual (Ref 185048422). Humidified gas will
not be delivered when this indicator is on.
