4. Operation
4.1 Operation with closed discharge
The pump HD-E is a positive displacement pump. The
pump must not be operated with closed shutoff ele-
ments, such as nozzle, valves, etc. An excessive pressure
build-up may result in damage.
The use of a bypass valve with return line is strongly
recommended. The maximum pressure is then limited
by the bypass valve.
4.2 Complete drainage
In order to ensure that the container is emptied com-
pletely, the pump must continue to run until the flow of
liquid ceases altogether. The container can be emptied
most effectively by tipping it up and guiding the intake
opening to the tipping point.
4.3 Dry running
Dry running must be avoided. The pump is said to run
dry if it continues to operate without pumping any
liquid whatsoever. This can be ensured by remaining in
attendance or with the aid of such technical means as a
flow monitor, etc.
4.4 Taking-out the pump tube
The pump tube must carefully be taken out of the con-
tainer, enabling the liquid, which is in the pump tube
and piping, flowing back into the container.

5. Storage
The pump should be stored in a sheltered, yet easily ac-
cessible place. The pump tube should always be stored
on the wall bracket and never laid flat (see Fig. 5). Flush
the pump after pumping hazardous liquids. Care must
be taken to prevent any remaining liquid from dripping
onto the floor when storing the pump.
6. Cleaning the pump tube
The pump must be flushed and cleaned after pumping
aggressive, tacky, crystallizing or contaminated liquids
(see Fig. 6).
The pump tube can be dismantled for cleaning. The
wing nut must be released (see Fig. 7 – item 1). Now
the pump tube can be drawn off (see Fig. 7 – item 2).
Before dismantling the pump tube it must be
completey emptied. Using a nozzle, residual liq-
uid can remain in the pump tube, after closing
the nozzle and switching-off the motor.
7. Repairs
Repairs should only be made by the manufacturer or
authorized Lutz-dealers. Only use genuine Lutz spare
parts.
Before sending back the appliance, following must be
observed:
• Residuals in the appliance can cause danger to the
environment and human health. The appliance must
be completely emptied, rinsed and cleaned.
• Please advise which liquid has been pumped. A
respective safety data sheet must be attached to the
return consignment.
