Troubleshooting table

Malfunctions can occur in all electrical appliances. This does not necessarily mean there is a
defect in the appliance. For this reason, check the tables to see if you can correct the malfunction.
WARNING
Risk of electric shock in case of improper repair!
Never try to repair a defective or suspected defective appliance yourself. This could en-
danger yourself and subsequent users. Only authorised specialists may carry out repairs.
If the mains cable of the appliance is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer,
through the customer service department or by a qualifi ed specialist.
Problem
The espresso has
no distinct taste and
is slightly acidic. The
colour is too light and
the crema disappears
quickly.
The espresso slow-
ly drips into the cup
instead of flowing, it
tastes bitter and the
crema looks thin and
dark on the edges.
The espresso tastes
acidic.
The coffee/espresso
is not hot enough.
The appliance cannot
be switched on.
The grinder LED (11)
flashes red.
Possible cause
Not enough ground es-
presso.
The degree of grinding
is set too coarsely.
Too much ground es-
presso.
The degree of grinding
is set too finely.
The descaler has not
been rinsed out ade-
quately.
The ground espresso
has been kept in a
warm, damp place for a
long time.
The cup is not preheat-
ed.
The mains plug is not
plugged in or the socket
has no power.
The grinder is not in-
serted correctly.
The grinder is overheat-
ing.
Troubleshooting table
Solutions, tips
13–15 g of ground espresso are required
for one cup, 20–22 g for two cups.
Select a finer desired degree of grinding
(1 = very fine, 5 = very coarse). The pres-
sure should be between 9 and 12 bar
when brewing.

Carry out rinsing (see „Descaling the ap-
pliance" on page EN-19).
If possible, use fresh espresso beans. If
you use ground espresso, close the pack-
aging carefully after removing it and keep
it in the refrigerator.
Preheat the cups with hot water or in the
cup storage (8).
Connect the mains plug to the socket or
check the mains fuse.
Reposition the grinder correctly (see
„Cleaning the grinder" on page EN-17).
Let the grinder cool down for a while and
then try again.
