If a number of ZAPTEC Pro charging stations are being set up with a shared network solution such as Wi-Fi-PLC,
this may lead to the ZAPTEC Pro charging stations swapping between the different PLC communication networks,
which may lead to an unstable network connection. Sparing use of this network option is recommended, and
ideally only one ZAPTEC Pro charging station in the installation should be enabled with this network solution.
Power grid
Power and PLC communication
This network option must only be used between ZAPTEC Pro charging stations. If ZAPTEC Pro charging stations
are configured with a shared network solution such as a PLC-Wi-Fi Access Point, this may allow other Wi-Fi
devices to use the same network. If unauthorised individuals have the SSID and network password used to set
up the ZAPTEC Pro charging station, this may result in increased 3G/4G subscription costs, reduce the Internet
connection between charging stations and because the Internet connection to become unstable, as data traffic
will increase by more than was envisaged.
Limit noise from the power grid and external sources. ZAPTEC recommends installing the PLC module in the middle
i
of the charging circuit. This will enhance the performance of the PLC network and limit external noise sources for
the PLC network.
Recommendations – PLCs
When using PLCs, we recommend using one PLC module per course/cable run.
With long cable runs, we recommend that you install the PLC module close to the
charging stations.
ZAPTEC Pro uses phases L1 and N for PLC communication. Use L1 and N as well when
installing the PLC module. Connection: N + L1 + PE.
On the IT network, note: When you install the PLC module in an IT network, you must only
connect to the two phases powering L1 and N at the charging stations (L1 and L3) + PE.
Install it as described in the installation manual.
If the PLC modules are fully encrypted, configure the charging stations as described in
the procedure supplied with the PLC module.
