5 Commissioning and Operation

4.2.5 Electrical connection

Open the plastic cover on the encoder, if necessary using a screwdriver. Plug the male con-
nector of the cable in the female connector of the encoder while the encoder is disconnected
from the power. Then close the plastic cover again. The snapping must be indicated by a clearly
perceptible or audible click.
5 Commissioning and Operation

5.1 Connecting the Connecting Wires

• When connecting the connecting wires, check the proper presence of the supply voltage and
the proper functioning.
• If the supply voltage is reversed, the encoder does not function.
Detailed information on the connection can be found in the product data sheets.

5.2 Operational Readiness when Switching On

The sine and cosine signals are immediately available after switching on the voltage supply.
Wait at least 150 ms until the encoder is ready for operation, that is to say until the interfaces
are ready for communication. The encoder will communicate with the outside through the digital
interface only after this period.

6 Maintenance

The device is maintenance-free. In harsh environments, we recommend regular inspections for
firm seating and possible damages at the device. Repair work may only be carried out by the
manufacturer, see Contact [} 42].
Prior to the work
1. Switch off the power supply and secure it against switching on again.
2. Then disconnect the power supply lines physically.
3. Remove operating and auxiliary materials and remaining processing materials from the en-
coder.

6.1 Disassembly

To disassemble the device, proceed in the reverse order of the assembly, see Mechanical In-
stallation [} 29].

6.1.1 Disassembling the Tapered Shaft

Unintentional seizing of the tapered shaft on the drive shaft may require a tool to remove it.
