- Note: If the probe tip contacts the bottom of the
bucket while testing, then the sample has not been
compacted correctly. Depending on the material
being tested, it may be necessary to add additional
layers.
- Remember to sample all areas of the field that
have terrain changes as stated earlier. Always
take several readings and average those readings
to achieve the most accurate results.
B. Baled hay
For measurement of bales you need to set the
density of the bale into the meter. The density of
the bale is calculated by dividing the weight of the
bale by its volume. See chapter 3. "Calculating
bale densities" for additional information.
Usually three measurements should be done when
measuring moisture from a rectangular bale. Make
one measurement from the middle and two
measurements from the ends of the bale.
In round bales the moisture should be measured
from several points around the bale.
