Using the SaunaUpgrade
Scars on the back area
The circulation of blood to the skin is essential for the skin's heat regulation. Scar
tissue is often equipped with fewer blood vessels. This makes the transport of heat
less efficient in areas where there are scars. Scar tissues heat up faster and this can
lead to the formation of "hotspots". You should therefore cover larger scars on the
back area.

2.7 When you should avoid infrared sessions

• Fever over 38°C in the course of a viral or bacterial infection.
• Acute infections, episodes and fresh wounds

2.8 Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Can I use the Physiotherm principle without hesitation?
Damage to the skin or the eyes is virtually ruled out thanks to the patented Physio-
therm Infrared-C radiator, if the equipment is used properly. This has been proven
by various expert reports and studies conducted into the low-temperature infrared
technology from Physiotherm.
My back is red after a session! Is that normal?
The body reacts to the stimulation of heat by opening the blood vessels in the
skin. The skin turns red. The blood transports the heat to the inner body. A signifi-
cant reddening of the skin in the exposed area of the back is therefore normal and
desired. Reddening of the skin that fades within 24 hours of an infrared session is
only fleeting and is not a problem. Should the reddening of the skin not have disap-
peared three hours after the session has ended, Physiotherm recommends reducing
the intensity and/or duration of the session during the next application.

Using the SaunaUpgrade
I don't sweat!
You should generally start to sweat quite intensely after using your Physiotherm
infrared cabin for 10 to 20 minutes. However, it is possible that you will only sweat
a little bit the first time you use your Physiotherm infrared cabin. Do not try to
force yourself to sweat by increasing the radiator intensity. Sweating is part of the
thermoregulation process. Thermoregulation is the body's ability to maintain its
core temperature in an optimum temperature range around 37°C irrespective of the
external temperature, and differs greatly from person to person.
The following factors influence the thermoregulation of a healthy person:
• Physical condition: Thermoregulation can be trained.
• Relative skin surface area: Slender people have a relatively larger
skin surface area and can give off relatively more heat through the skin.
• Subcutaneous fat: Lower levels of subcutaneous fat increase the amount of heat
dissipated through the skin.
• Drinking habits: The body must be fed a sufficient amount of fluids and minerals,
particularly to improve the detoxification process.
Are pregnant women allowed to use the SaunaUpgrade?
Every pregnancy is individual. Ultimately only your consultant can carry out an indi-
vidual use and risk assessment for you.
What is important in this respect is that the core body temperature only rises by 0.2
to 0.3°C whilst using the Physiotherm infrared cabin. Neither the infrared radiation
nor the direct heat conduction will reach the unborn child and/or the uterus.
Are children allowed to use the SaunaUpgrade?
The SaunaUpgrade can be used by children when accompanied by an adult.
Children have a much larger body surface area compared to adults and absorb
relatively much more heat. The session duration and intensity should be reduced
accordingly.
Please bear in mind the guidelines below so as not to exceed the recommended
session length for children. Always ensure that children drink plenty of water before
and after the session!
