7.6 ENGINE____________________________________________________________________

1. Refer to Section 5.3 for maintenance intervals. Refer
to your engine manual for detailed maintenance infor-
mation.
IMPORTANT:
The normal engine operating temperature is less
than 220°F (104°C). If the engine temperature
rises by more than 10°F (6°C) above normal,
there is an indication that the cooling system may
not be functioning properly. See Section 7.16.
Damage to the engine can occur if

it is operated when overheated.
The
warning
horn
temperature reaches 230°F (110°C). To prevent
damage to the engine never allow the engine to
operate above 230°F (110°C). Stop the machine,
turn off the implements and operate the engine at
low idle for 5 minutes.

7.7 FUEL ______________________________________________________________________

fuel filler neck. Avoid using cans and funnels to
transfer fuel.
Never remove the fuel cap from the fuel tank, or
add fuel, when the engine is running or while the
engine is hot.
Do not smoke when handling fuel. Never fill or
drain the fuel tank indoors.
Never overfill or allow the tank to become empty.
Do not spill fuel and clean spilled fuel
immediately.

7.8 FUEL FILTER _______________________________________________________________

Please refer to your Engine Manual for specific
instructions.

2. During the first 50 hours of operation, a new engine
should be operated at full load. The engine must be
allowed to reach operating temperature prior to
operating at full load.
3. Check the engine oil level twice daily during the first
50 hours of operation. Higher than normal oil
consumption is not uncommon during the initial
brake-in period.
4. Do not change the engine governor settings or over-
speed the engine.
5. If the injection pump, injectors or the fuel system
require service, contact an authorized Jacobsen
Distributor.
Never handle or store fuel containers near an
open flame or any device that may create sparks
and ignite the fuel or fuel vapors.
1. Fill tractor's fuel tank at the end of each operating day
to within 1 in., (25 mm) below the filler neck.
a. Use clean, fresh, #2 Diesel fuel, Minimum Cet-
ane Rating 45.
b. Be sure to reinstall and tighten fuel cap securely.
2. Replace fuel filters as specified in Section 7.8.
3. Store fuel according to local, state or federal ordi-
nances and recommendations from your fuel
supplier.
