Rosenbauer – NAUTILUS 4/1 & NAUTILUS 4/1 ECO
6.1. Maintenance
The NAUTILUS ground plate is
equipped with holes. Should the
impeller be blocked by foreign objects
such as stones, pieces of wood or
similar, it is possible to turn the
impeller in both directions with the
help of a screw driver WITHOUT
removing the ground plate. This can removes the blockage of the impeller
and the pump is ready for operation again without further effort.
After operation, we recommend that you remove the NAUTILUS from the
pumped medium and flush the pump with fresh water.
If there is a danger of frost, allow the pump to run dry for about 10 seconds
after removing from the medium in order to avoid the impeller freezing solid.
If the impeller is frozen, you can release it by immersing in water.
After operation always perform a visual check to ensure water tightness of
the cable and cable grommet and identify any damage.
To ensure safe and trouble-free operation of the submersible pump, the
following points should be checked at least once a year:
Visual check of cable and grommet
Functional check of mechanical shaft seal (see point 6.2)
During trial run, check the shaft seal for unusual noise
The NAUTILUS was designed not to need any consumables throughout its
entire working life.
6.2. Checking the mechanical seal
The NAUTILUS is equipped with a double
seal system. To check the functionality of
the mechanical seal (primary seal), first
remove the screw shown in the picture,
afterwards seal the discharge outlet with
a blind plug or, a 2,5 " ball-type valve,
and place the NAUTILUS in a container
filled with approx. 30 cm of water; switch
on the pump and allow to run for a few minutes. If water escapes from the
control aperture at the top of the pump, the mechanical seal is worn and must
be replaced by an authorized repair center.
Also listen for unusual noises which may indicate bearing damage. Finally close
the control aperture by srewing in the bolt again.
