Application
3WX3147 signal processing units are employed for convert-
ing electronic output signals of the trip unit of the 3WN
breakers into contact signals which are suitable for power
circuits.
The 3WX3147-1JA00 unit handles all signals imparted by the
trip unit whereas the 3WX3147-0JA00 and -2JA00 unit han-
dles only some of the signals (see function breakdown, Table 1)
A relay with 1 make and 1 break contact is allotted to each signal.
Mode of operation
The unit is connected to the signal outputs of the overcurrent
release (see terminal diagrams, Figs. 3, 4 and 5). The incom-
ing signals are amplified and activate the respective relay.
The meaning of the signals imparted by the overcurrent
release is as follow:
1. Tripping signals
1.1 „a"-Tripping
This indicates that the signal has been caused by inverse
time-delay overcurrent tripping (overload tripping).
1.2 „z/n"-Tripping
This indicates that the signal has been initiated by instantane-
ous or short-time delay tripping (short-circuit tripping).
1.3 „g"-Tripping
This indicates that the signal has been initiated by earth-fault
tripping.
2. Warning signals
2.1 Overload
The load current exceeds 1.12 times the setting of the inverse-
time delay release. This means that tripping is imminent.
2.2 Temperature rise
The temperature in the overcurrent release exceeds a value
of approx. 90°C. The cause may be excessive ambient tem-
perature or a fault in the release or breaker.
2.3 Phase unbalance
The current in one conducting path is less than 50% of that in
another path.

2.4 Fault
The microprocessor monitor of the overcurrent release has
picked up. In this case the resetting button on the overcurrent
release must be pressed. If the the signal cannot be cancelled
or if it immediately reappears, the release is no longer usable
and must be replaced.
Stored signals
The tripping and fault signals are stored by the signal process-
ing unit, i. e. the respective relay still remains in the pick-up
position after the signal has been cancelled (bistable relay). A
stored signal is cancelled by pressing the resetting button on
the overcurrent release in the 3WN breaker.
A tripping signal lights up the pertinent LED in the overcurrent
release and shows what sort of fault has caused tripping. The
LED goes out when the signal is cancelled.
Battery operation and auxiliary voltage indication
The 3WX3147 signal processing units can be operated from
a supplementary external standby battery to cover a failure of
the system supply. In order to reduce consumption in standby
operation, only the stored signals are processed and the LEDs
in the overcurrent release are switched to flashing operation.
An additional LED on the front of units 3WX3147 (see Fig. 1)
signals the status of the power supply to the unit. A continuous
light indicates that it is operating on the system. Whereas a
flashing light indicates that it is operating on the standby
battery during a system failure.
For remote indication of the state of the power supply a signal
(only with 3WX3147-1JA00) corresponding to the LED (active
HIGH, approx. 11V) is available at terminals 22/10 (see
terminal diagram, Fig. 3).
Installation and putting into service
The signal processing unit is suitable for snap-mounting on a
standard mounting rail EN 50 022-35, or for screw-fixing by
means of the slide in the acessories pack provided. The screw
diameter is 4 mm. (For the position of the slide for screw-fixing,
see the dotted line in Fig. 6).
It is connected in accordance with the terminal diagrams in
Figs. 2/3. The terminals take a maximum of two 2,5 mm
Pay attention to the correct polarity in connecting the standby
battery or another DC auxiliary power source.
Check the correct position of the selector switches for the
type of current and system voltage prior to putting the
unit into operation (see Fig. 1).
The device is supplied in the 220/240 V AC, 50/60 Hz position
with a fuse-link 0,25 A.
If the device is operated in either the 110-125 V AC, 50/60 Hz
or 24 V DC position, the fuse-link T 0,5 A provided must be
used.
The signal leads to the 3WN breaker must be protected
against strong electromagnetic fields of other live parts (e.g.
circuit-breakers, conductors, busbars). Screened conductors
should therefore be used.
Maintenance
The unit does not require any maintenance.
