The TegraPol software is now ready to begin the preparation
process.
Press the Raise/Lower button to lower the TegraForce-5 head. Otherwise
manual preparation can be started or the Spin function can be activated.
Do not use plane grinding with coarse abrasives when preparing
single specimens. It is normally not necessary, and the use of coarse
abrasives can result in unplane specimens.
If, for whatever reason, it is necessary to grind using coarse
abrasive, the planeness may be improved by carrying out the
following:
 The height of the specimen should be between 8 – 40 mm and not
exceed 0.7 x specimen diameter.
Example: A specimen with a diameter
of 30 mm should not be higher than 30 x 0.7 = 21 mm.
 Use as small a grain size as possible.
 Use a mounting resin with a wear resistance similar to the
specimens wear resistance.
 Use 150 rpm for both grinding disc and specimen mover.
(when using lower speeds decrease the speed on both the disc
and the specimen mover).
 Use counter rotation on TegraForce-5.
 Use low forces.
 Position TegraForce-5 so that the specimens do not go over the
centre of the preparation disc.
