The Rear View

The ports on the rear side of the workstation can vary in their detail depending on the system
configuration. The usual port connections are shown here:
1. The power switch. Here you can switch off the device when it will not be used for an
extended period. If you want to avoid using any power whatever, you have to discon-
nect the mains plug.
2. Mains connection socket – the power cable is inserted here.
3. Mouse connection socket and keyboard connection socket – the PS/2 mouse and
keyboard are connected here.
4. The serial interface COM1 – serial peripheral devices such as a serial mouse, external
modems, etc. can be connected here.
5. Parallel LPT1 interface – this interface is a 25-pin socket. Here you can connect a
printer.
6. The coaxial audio output (digital lineout) – amplifiers, etc. are connected here.
7 . FireWire socket (IEEE 1394) – devices such as cameras, hard disk drives, etc. are con-
nected here.
8. Rear USB connection sockets – USB peripheral equipment such as joysticks, mouse
devices, scanners, printers or digital cameras are connected here.
