TROUBLESHOOTING

This chart contains information to assist in resolving router problems.
If a problem cannot be resolved using this advice do not tamper with the router - contact your local
CMT branch for referral to your nearest authorised repair centre.
SYMPTOM
• Router will not operate
• Router runs slowly
• Makes an unusual sound
• Excessive vibration
• Heavy sparking occurs inside
motor housing
• Micro adjuster tight or not
winding
• Plunge lock lever not locking
• Shutter on power switch not
releasing
• Can't plunge to collet lock
position

POSSIBLE CAUSE
• No supply of power
• Brushes worn or sticking
• Switch is faulty
• Motor components open or short
circuited
• Blunt or damaged cutter
• Variable speed set low
• Motor is overloaded
• Mechanical obstruction
• Armature has shorted sections
• Collet is loose.
• Bent cutter shank
• Brushes not moving freely
• Armature short circuited or open
circuited
• Commutator dirty
• Plunge lock engaged
• Plunge selector in "Locked"
position
• Plunge lock lever not correctly
positioned
• Router is plunged to full depth - in
collet lock position
• Power switch "On"
REMEDY
• Check that power is available at
source
• Disconnect power, open brush
caps and ensure brushes move
freely in the holders. Check
whether the brushes require
replacing, as shown on Page 10.

• Re-sharpen or replace cutter
• Increase variable speed setting.
• Reduce pushing force on router.

• Tighten collet and ensure 1/4"
collet adaptor (if fitted) is
correctly installed.

• Disconnect power, remove
brushes, clean or replace

• Switch plunge mode selector to
"Unlock" Refer to "Handle Winder
Plunge"
• Re-position plunge lock lever as
described in "Free Plunge"
• Reduce plunge depth
• Switch power "Off".
