6. If the settings are wrong, or if the charger detects a problem, an audio signal is emitted and the
appropriate information is shown on the display.
7. Once the cycle is completed, an audio signal is emitted.
If you wish to terminate the discharge process beforehand, press the „Batt Type/Stop"
button.

14. LEAD BATTERIES (PB)

a) General information

Lead acid batteries are completely different to NiMH or NiCd batteries. In comparison to their high
capacity they can only provide low currents. The charging process is also different.
The charge current for lead acid batteries may only be a maximum of one-tenth (1/10 C) the battery's
capacity.
The maximum capacity of lead batteries should be less than 20 Ah. Due the chemical
characteristics of the battery, the cut off point could be difficult to detect. The user is
recommended to set the capacity cuf off at 20 AH.
It is not permitted to rapidly charge lead acid batteries, as this would overload
the battery - resulting in a risk of fire and explosion!
Always heed the information printed on the battery or the details provided
by the battery manufacturer on the permitted charge current.

b) Charging batteries ("CHARGE")

1. In the main menu, select the "Pb" charge program with the button "Batt Type/Stop".
PROGRAM SELECT
2. Press the button "Start/Enter"; the display shows the following, for example:
Pb CHARGE
0.5A
12.0V(6P)
The value on the left in the second line shows the charge current, the value on the right shows the
voltage or number of cells of the battery (in this example, a 6-cell lead battery, 6x 2.0V = 12.0V).
3. If the values need to be changed, press the "Start/Enter" button. The charge current begins to
flash. Change the charge current using the buttons "INC" and "DEC", confirm the value using the
"Start/Enter" button.
4. The voltage/cell number then begins to flash. Change it using the buttons "INC" and "DEC". You
should be aware while doing this that the voltage only changes with the number of cells (e.g. one
cell = 2.0V, two cells 4.0V etc.) Confirm the setting by pressing the "Start/Enter" button.
