13. NIMH AND NICD BATTERIES

a) Charging batteries ("CHARGE")

The charge current to be set depends on the battery capacity and is usually 1C. However, you should
take the battery manufacturer's instructions into account.
The value "1C" means that the charging current is equivalent to the battery's capacity. As such, a
charge current of 3.0A should be set for a 3000mAh NiMH battery at 1C.
Depending on the battery connected and its structure, a charge current of 1C may not
be possible. For example, receiver batteries usually consist of AA cells that cannot
withstand such a high charge current without incurring damage.
In general: The smaller the battery (i.e. the individual cell), the lower the maximum
charge current. Many NiMH mignon/AA cells with a capacity of 2000mAh allow a charge
current of 400-500mA for a rapid recharge.
Charging a NiMH or NiCd battery
1. In the main menu, select the "NiMH" or "NiCd" charge program with the button "Batt Type/ Stop".

2. Press the button "Start/Enter"; the display shows the following, for example:
NiMH CHARGE
CURRENT
The left image shows the manual mode (you specify the charge current), the right image the
automatic mode (the charger sets the charge current, all you specify is the top limit).
If you now briefly press the button „INC" or „DEC", you access the discharge program
(„DISCHARGE"), then the cycle program („CYCLE") and return to the charge program
(„CHARGE"), see chapter 12. b) and 12. c).
3. Briefly press the button "Start/Enter" to access setup mode. Now the current value blinks on the
bottom right of the display.
If the current value blinks, you can switch between manual and automatic mode by
simultaneously pressing the buttons "INC" and "DEC".
