8. PROTECTIVE fUNCTIONS

a) Undervoltage protection

The inverter emits an alarm sound when the input voltage drops below 11.0 v/DC.
If the input voltage drops below 10.7 v/DC, the inverter and the connected consumer are
switched off. This protects, e.g., a car battery that is used to operate the inverter, from harmful
deep discharge. The display shows "L - -" in this case.
Terminate operation of the inverter and switch it off.
Disconnect the consumer from the inverter and then pull the cigarette lighter plug of the
inverter from the cigarette lighter socket.
If the undervoltage protection is activated, the USB output may not switch off in some circum-
stances. Disconnect thus the load which is connected to the USB output from the inverter after
activating the undervoltage protection.
b) Overload protection
The inverter switches itself off temporarily if the consumer connected to the 230 v output
draws too much power. An alarm sounds as well. If the power consumption is reduced, the
inverter will switch on again automatically.
Important!
The USB output and the 230 v output are independent from each other.
If the two outputs are operated at the same time just below maximum load, the
overload protection does not trip. In this case, however, the fuse in the cigarette
lighter plug can trip, since the overall load and thus the overall current is higher
than the fuse value!
c) Overtemperature protection
The conversion of input voltage to mains voltage and the resulting conversion loss produces
heat due to the working principle. An integrated fan helps to cool the electronics of the inverter.
Depending on the power intake of the connected consumer or the operating temperature, the
inverter may overheat.
