4. Introduction

The Hi_Cal height gauge has been designed to work on small flat reference surfaces such
as granite or scraped cast iron plates. A number of technological innovations make this
instrument very suitable for easy, fast and reliable measurements. It offers the following
advantages :
• very low measuring force (0.3 N) and excellent repeatability
• reduced weight for easy handling
• fully motorized probe displacement. The drive speed is proportional to the paddles'
action. The probe automatically tracks profiles and maintains a constant measuring
force : measuring diameters is, therefore, fast and precise
• two motorization speed ranges available for small or mid size parts measurement
• very easy to operate and versatile: can be used both in the workshop and laboratory
• interactive and intuitive keypad, including setup menu function
• two lines display, enabling viewing of diameter and centerline simultaneously

5. Getting started

Simply remove the transport fixing part by pulling it upward, then fix the probe on the
support: instrument is ready for measuring. Please keep the transport fixing part in a safe
place.
Important: always check the fixing of the probe and the probe constant value before
measuring.
Connect the AC/DC adapter, and check the status lights:
top light: ON
blinking
bottom light : ON
Remark: initially, or after a long period without use of the instrument, battery loading
may take a few minutes before the instrument is ready.
After the ON button has been activated, the Hi_Cal will automatically check the
probe measuring detection sensor (
setting the system reference.
In case of a problem during Hall initialization, please proceed with following controls:
- Is the probe free to move ?
- Is the measuring force correctly set (see also chapter 17) ?
- If REF1 and CMDE are displayed, paddles may have been activated during the
initialization procedure. Please check that the paddles are free.
