Normal operating sounds

All products have different "operating sounds," which can sometimes seem annoying but which are
completely normal functional sounds. They are generally quiet and regular. Here are some examples
of sounds you can expect to hear that typically do not indicate a problem:
Humming/Buzzing
This is the sound of the compressor working. It is a low, constant sound that occurs when the
compressor runs to cool down.
Hissing / bubbling
The sound of refrigerant moving through the pipes. It could also be the sound of the defrost cycle,
where ice melts and drips onto the heating elements.
Clicking
The sound of the thermostat turning the compressor on and off. This happens periodically and is
normal.
Gurgling
This could be the refrigerant circulating through the system. It can also be the sound of drain water
flowing through the drain pipe during the defrost cycle.
Popping/Cracking
This is usually due to materials expanding and contracting due to temperature changes. It is especially
common during the de-icing cycle.
Fan sounds
A soft hissing or blowing sound from the fans that circulate the air inside the product and the freezer.
Noise
If you find that the sounds are louder than usual, this can be due to several reasons. You can handle
most of them yourself without a visit from a service technician.
The product is not stable
If the product is tilted, it can affect the circulation of refrigerant. Adjust on the leveling feet or place
something underneath.
The door does not close tightly
If the door of the product does not close tightly, the compressor has to work harder to keep the
temperature down. Make sure to close the door properly or get a service technician to replace the
sealing strip.
The product is too close to a wall
The compressor emits small vibrations. If the product is too close to the wall, the sound of these will
increase. Fix it by moving the product further away from the wall.
When should you be concerned?
Loud, sudden noises; If you hear loud banging or metallic noises, it may indicate that something is
loose or broken. Continuous noise; If the product makes constant noise without pauses, it may be a
sign that something is not working properly. Irregular sounds; Irregular clicking, bumping or vibrating
noises may indicate that something is loose or not working properly.
