Startup
6.1
Startup
Uncontrolled system movement
During startup, if the sensor is part of a closed loop
system whose parameters have not yet been set, the
system may perform uncontrolled movements. This
could result in personal injury and equipment damage.
► Persons must keep away from the system's
hazardous zones.
► Startup must be performed only by trained technical
personnel.
► Observe the safety instructions of the equipment or
system manufacturer.
1. Check connections for tightness and correct polarity.
Replace damaged connections.
2. Turn on the system.
3. Check measured values and adjustable parameters
and readjust the sensor if necessary.
Check for the correct values, especially after
replacing the sensor or after repair by the
manufacturer.

Teach-in of sensors
6.2.1
Teaching in the BCS R08RRE-G...
(sensor with switching output)
The switch point can be taught in with the teach input DI
(Data Input) as follows:
–
Full calibration: Sufficient for most applications
–
Empty calibration: For safe shutoff in critical
applications with residues and build-up
The type of calibration is defined by the duration, the
process is displayed with the function LED (see Display of
BCS R08RRE-G... (with switching output) on page 9).
If the DI input remains connected to L+ for longer
than 12 seconds, the calibration process is
canceled. The switching threshold is not
changed. In order to start a new calibration, the
DI input must be removed from L+.
Full calibration
With a full calibration, the switch point is set below the
current sensor value. This means that the active status is
reliably detected even if there are slight changes in the
application.
Performing calibration:
1. Connect the DI input to L+ for 2 to 7 seconds.
2. Disconnect DI input from L+.
⇒ Switching threshold is applied.
Empty calibration
With an empty calibration, the switch point is set above the
current sensor value.
Performing calibration:
1. Connect the DI input to L+ for 7 to 12 seconds.
2. Disconnect DI input from L+.
⇒ Switching threshold is applied.
