Preparation
Consider the following factors as you determine the most appropriate technology and
prosthesis design for your client:
1.
Does the user understand the function and safety features of the device?
2.
What other terminal devices will be used with this prosthesis?
3. In what types of environments will the device(s) be used?
4. In what positions will the person use the device?
5.
How will the user switch terminal devices? Will quick-disconnect be helpful?
6. For what other activities might this device be helpful?
7. Will the person benefit from additional training in the use of the device?
Installation
JAWS may be installed in any Fillauer TRS Omega Wrist, and any Fillauer LLC wrist
unit with a ½-20 thread. Follow the instructions provided with the wrist unit for best
results .
Cabling
The "thumb" has been designed with a receiver for a 9/32" terminal ball and a 3/16"
terminal ball. A Binary Swivel, or triple swivel with either a 3/16" or 9/32" terminal
ball should be selected with a cable connection that matches the cable used in the
prosthesis. Cable routing should assure a direct line of pull that minimizes bends in the
cable which could result in excess cable friction or failure .
Tension of the JAWS gripping force is adjusted by a manual shift mechanism, providing
four gripping force levels.
