Determining the Density of Liquids
Preparation
– Center the small-diameter beaker
(55 mm d) on the metal platform
– Attach the thermometer to the rim of
the beaker using the retainer clip
– When „LOW" is displayed,
add the compensating ring�
Measuring Procedure
– Suspend the disk with the glass
plummet (hanging on one wire) from
the frame
– Tare the balance
– Fill the beaker with the liquid to be
tested so that the liquid is 10 mm above
the glass plummet
Determining the Buoyancy
G = W (a) – W (fl)
The negative weight displayed by the
balance corresponds to the buoyancy
acting on the glass plummet in the liquid�
– Record the buoyancy displayed
with a negative sign
– Read off the temperature and record it
Calculating the Density
– Calculate the density using the
following formula:
