SYMPTOM
DIAGNOSIS
Power not turned on
when Operate switch
is set to ON (1).

1. Connection of power supply is in-
complete.
2. The voltage of battery pack drops.
REMEDY
1. Connect firmly.
2. Charge battery pack.
Sound is not stereo.
1. The mode select switch is not set
to "STEREO".
1. Set the switch to "STEREO".
No sound.
Sound is interrupted.
1. Incomplete connection between the
DAT-88EX and amplifier.
. Heads are dirty.
. Recording was made in the long-play
or 4-channel mode which cannot be
played by the DAT-88EX.
. The tape is damaged.
1. Connect firmly.
. Clean the head using a head cleaning
tape.
. Replace the tape.
. Replace the tape.
Recording not
possible.
1. The erasure prevention tab of the
cassette is opened.
. The record level controls are set to
minimum (in analog recording).
. In complete connection between the
DAT-88EX and amplifier or another
DAT deck.
. The input select switch does not
match the source to be recorded.
. You digital recording of a digitally
copied tape.
. Heads are dirty.
Play or fast forward
not possible.
1. Play or fast forward is not possible
with a tape on which an end ID is
recorded ("EE" is displayed in the
Program number indicator).

1. Close the tab.
. Adjust the recording level.
. Check the connection.
. Match it with the source.

once.
Clean the head using a head cleaning
