028481 FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Unpack the towing bracket and check its contents against the parts list. If necessary, remove the
underseal from around the fitting points of the luggage compartment/frame members.
2. Remove the inside panels and detach the rear combination lights, which are attached with a large
plastic nut.
3. Remove the bumper, which is attached as follows:
- 2 cross-slotted screws per side in the wheel housing
- 2 torque screws per side after the mud flaps between the top edge of the bumper and the under
side of the rear fender.
- 2 torque screws per side after both tail lights
- 1 torque screw per side on the rear (valve open)
- 3 screws on the underside
4. Dismount the inside bumper.
5. Turn the exhaust clamp a little if necessary.
6. Remove the rubber caps on the rear side of the frame members (LH and RH side).
7. Remove the two round rubber caps on the outside and the underside of the frame members
(LH and RH side).
8. Place bracket "1" on the outside of the LH frame member, in such way that the bracket is completely
situated against the outside and the lower side of the frame member. Mark hole "A" on the frame
member. Check the height gauge of hole "A" as shown in detail 1. Drill hole "A" on-sided to 11mm.
Repeat with support "2" for the RH side.
9. Slide the backing plates "3" through the holes (see point 6) in the frame members. Mount the supports
"1" and "2" at the holes "B" using 2 M10x30 bolts and spring washers (do not tighten fully).
10. Slide the backing plates "4" in the frame members. Mount 4 bolts M10x30 including spring washers at
the holes "A" (Do not tighten fully).
11. Mount the crossbar at the holes "C" using 4 bolts M12x40, spring washers and nuts .
12. Secure the towbar using a torque-wrench. Torque the bolts as follows:
M10 – 46 Nm M12 – 79Nm
13. Make a recess in the bumper as shown in detail 2.
14. Replace all in point 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2 removed parts.
15. Mount the ball and socket plate (hole "D") at the holes "D" and "E" using 2 bolts M12x70, spring
washers and nuts. (Torque value M12-79 Nm).
16. After about 1000 km use, re-tighten the bolts and nuts to the specified torque.
