Causes and operator prevention of
kickback
Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the
guide bar touches an object, or when the wood
closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut.
Tip contact in some cases may cause a sudden
reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up and
back towards the operator.
Pinching the saw chain along the top of the guide
bar may push the guide bar rapidly back towards
the operator.
Either of these reactions may cause you to lose
control of the saw which could result in serious
personal injury. Do not rely exclusively upon the
safety devices built into your saw. As a chain saw
user, you should take several steps to keep your
cutting jobs free from accident or injury.
Kickback is the result of tool misuse and/or incor-
rect operating procedures or conditions and can
be avoided by taking proper precautions as given
below:
Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs and fin-
gers encircling the chain saw handles,
with both hands on the saw and position
your body and arm to allow you to resist
kickback forces. Kickback forces can be
controlled by the operator, if proper precau-
tions are taken. Do not let go of the chain
saw.
Do not overreach and do not cut above
shoulder height. This helps prevent unin-
tended tip contact and enables better control
of the chain saw in unexpected situations.
Only use replacement bars and chains
specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect re-
placement bars and chains may cause chain
breakage and/or kickback.
Follow the manufacturer's sharpening and
maintenance instructions for the saw
chain. Decreasing the depth gauge height
can lead to increased kickback.

Safety instructions for the polemounted
pruner
3.9.1
Work instructions (01)
During pruning, lift the polemounted pruner
(01/1) to a maximum angle of 60° (01/2). At a
steeper angle, you inevitably get into the area
where cut-off branches can fall. Always stand
outside this area.
Plan an escape route in advance for getting
out of the way of falling branches. This es-
24
cape route must be free of obstacles such as
sawn-off branches or slippery places that
could hinder getting out of the way.
Keep a safe distance from bystanders, ani-
mals, objects or buildings, which is at least
approx. 2.5x the length of the branch to be
sawn off. If that is not possible, saw the
branch off piece by piece.
Do not attempt to saw a branch that has a di-
ameter greater than the length of the chain
bar.
Avoid moving branches or objects becoming
caught in the saw chain. In this case, immedi-
ately switch off the polemounted pruner.
Remove the rechargeable battery from the
basic appliance and push the protective cov-
er over the saw chain for:
Testing, adjustment work and cleaning
work
Work on the guide rail and saw chain
Leaving the appliance
Transport
Storage
Maintenance and repair work
Danger
Maintain a minimum distance of 10 m to
overhead electrical lines.
3.9.2
Vibration load
WARNING!
Danger due to vibration
The actual magnitude of the vibration
emissions during the use of the appli-
ance may deviate from that stated by the
manufacturer. Observe the following in-
fluencing factors before or during use:
Is the appliance being used as in-
tended?
Is the material being cut or pro-
cessed in the proper manner?
Is the appliance in a proper condi-
tion of use?
Is the cutting tool properly sharp-
ened or is the correct cutting tool in-
stalled?
Are the handle grips and any option-
al vibration grips mounted, and are
they firmly attached to the appli-
ance?
