6. Before starting
The machine has to be set up where it stands
firmly, i.e. bolted to a workbench or similar.
There are two fixing holes (a) in the base plate
for this purpose.
Screws for securing the machine in position are
not supplied.
Caution: Do not overtighten the fixing screws or
the base plate may fracture.
Before you connect the machine to a socket-
outlet, check that the data on the rating plate are
the same as those of your power supply.
7 Assembly
7.1 Assembling the pillar and the machine head
(Fig. 1)
The parts numbers used below correspond to the
item numbers in the list of replacement parts and in
the exploded drawing and Fig. 1.
Remove grease and oil residues from all the parts
before assembling.
1. Place the base plate (1) on a flat surface.
2. Use the supplied screws (3) to fasten the pillar
(4) and holder (2) to the base plate (1).
3. Slide the table holder (8) together with the table
(7) over the pillar (4).
4. Mount the machine head (19) on the pillar (4).
5. Use the two grub screws (20) to fasten the
machine head (19) to the pillar.
6. Screw the three handles (16) in the feed shaft
815).
7. Plug the chuck (10) on the taper of the spindle
(13).
Important: Carefully remove all oil and grease
residues from the taper of the chuck and spindle.
7.2 Chip guard (Fig. 2)
Slacken the clamping screw (d).
Push the clamping flange (c) over the drilling
spindle.
Align the guard with the transparent disk at the
front.
The chip guard can be infinitely adjusted in
height using the two thumb screws (f).
To change the bit the chip guard has to be
flipped up out of the way.
Be sure to flip the chip guard down again before
you switch on the drill.

8 Operation
(Fig. 3 + 4)
8.1 Setting the speed
Important: The V-belt housing (45) is electrically
interlocked, i.e. the V-belt housing has to be closed
before you can switch on the pillar drill.
The various speeds are set by moving the V-belt.
1. Switch off the machine.
2. Open the V-belt housing (45).
3. Undo the thumb screw (21) and slide the motor
(33) toward the spindle.
4. Move the V-belt to the desired speed setting (see
Fig. 4).
Important: The V-belt must always run
horizontally.
5. Tension the V-belt, i.e. slide the motor plate (32)
together with the motor (33) away from the
spindle to the rear.
6. When the V-belt has the right tension (you can
still depress it between the pulleys by approx. 1
cm), use the thumb screw (21) to fix the motor
plate (33) in this position.
7. Close the V-belt housing again.
8.2 Setting the depth (Fig. 5)
The drilling depth can be set exactly using the depth
stop and scale on the motor head.
Use the handle (16) to press the tip of the bit
lightly against the top of the workpiece.
Use the setting nut (39) and the pointer (40) to
set the required drilling depth on the scale fitted
to the machine housing (19).
Important: When setting the drilling depth for a
cylindrical hole, allow for the length of the bit tip.
8.3 Tilting the table (Fig. 6)
The table (7) can be tilted to allow you to drill holes
at an angle or to drill holes in a workpiece with an
inclined bearing surface.
Undo the hexagon screw (9).
Turn the table (7) to the required angle of tilt.
The angle can be read off the scale on the table
holder (5).
Re-tighten the hexagon screw (9).
