Basic drying tips

Sorting through laundry

The washing instructions of the textile manu-
facturer/the international care symbols on the
labels contain precise information about how
to handle each piece of laundry. Only clothing
with the appropriate care label may be dried
in the dryer:
Suitable for the dryer
Dry at normal temperature
Dry at lower temperature
Do not dry using the dryer
Before drying, sort the laundry to remove
items that are unsuitable for drying:
– Wool textiles, silk, nylon tights, laundry with
(foam-) rubber or metal parts, waterproof
textiles, reinforced clothing or similar.
– Laundry that has been previously treated
with chemical detergents
– Laundry that has been treated with chem-
icals, solvents, oil, grease and wax or has
been soiled with these substances prior to
this wash cycle
As fabrics need different lengths of time to dry
and react to heat in different ways, additional
criteria apply for drying in the appliance. Sort
by fabric type:
– cottons and linen textiles suitable for dryers
– delicate laundry that is suitable for dryers
such as easy-care synthetics, synthet-
ic-mix fabrics, cotton or similar.
Special materials
– Dry delicate laundry in a washing bag or
net so that they are not damaged by but-
tons etc.
– Do not "over-dry" easy-care synthetics and
synthetic-mix fabrics. Remove this laundry
from the drum when slightly damp and then
let it dry.

Other tips
– Always dry small items of laundry, such as
baby socks, together with a large item of
laundry, such as a towel.

Protecting the environment

– The most efficient cycles with regard to
energy and water consumption are gener-
ally those with a longer duration and lower
temperatures.
– The "ECO 40–60", "Cotton 20 °C" and
"Washing and drying" cycles are efficient
in terms of combined energy and water
consumption:
– The "ECO 40–60" cycle is suitable for
cleaning normally soiled cotton laundry
that is declared to be washable at 40 °C
or 60 °C and that can be washed togeth-
er.
– The "Cotton 20 °C" cycle is suitable for
cleaning lightly soiled cotton laundry that
can be washed at a nominal tempera-
ture of 20 °C.
– The "Washing and drying" cycle can
be used to clean normally soiled cot-
ton laundry, declared to be washable at
40 °C or 60 °C, together and dried so
that it can be immediately put away.
– If you adhere to the instructions concerning
the maximum laundry load, you can save
energy and water.

Amount of laundry

– Adhere to the maximum permissible laun-
dry load of the selected cycle (see "Cycle
table" on page EN-16).
