GENERAL DEFINITION OF TERMS

Trigger threshold (Ft):
The trigger threshold triggers the measurement.
Peak force (Fp):
Maximum force to be found during the measurement.
Effective force (Fe):
Average force during time T.
Pulse duration (T):
Time between t1 and t2 , where t1 marks increasing and t2 decreasing the force trigger
threshold.
Clamping force (FE):
Mean value of effective forces, measured sequentially at the same measuring point.
Remaining force (Fk):
Remaining force is the force 1 s after decreasing or 5 s after increasing the trigger
threshold (whichever occurs first).

EN81-1

6.2.1 Kinetic Energy

The kinetic energy of an elevator door may not exceed 10 J. It is calculated on the base of
the peak force and the known deflection rate of the sensor.

6.2.2 Static closing force

The static force is the force which has to be applied to prevent the door from closing. It may
not exceed 150 N. This is not valid for the first third of the closing course.
Within the PinchPilot software there have been implemented two different methods to
measure the static closing force:
Up to PinchPilot version 2.5: The value used for the 150 N limit comparison is the remaining
force. The remaining force is the average force value of the last 10 % of the measuring
phase.
From PinchPilot version 2.6: Determination by an automatic plateau detection. The relevant
phase for determining the static closing force is the time, where the door tries to close the
door with a constant force. The force performs during this period a plateau. The average
force of the plateau is the static closing force. If no plateau can be detected, the static closing
force is assumed to be zero.
