Factory calibration
The recommended maintenance interval is 2 years.
Hach recommends the sensor is inspected and calibrated by Hach's service department or a certified
partner at 2-year intervals. During the 24-month service, internal components will be inspected and
replaced as necessary, and a 5-point polynomial factory calibration will be done. A certificate of
calibration is given when all service is completed. If service is not completed, an adverse effect on
the accuracy or function of the sensor can occur.
Note: It is important to understand the latest requirements for calibration and verification from local regulatory
agencies.
5.2 Clean the sensor
Chemical exposure hazard. Obey laboratory safety procedures and wear all of the
personal protective equipment appropriate to the chemicals that are handled. Refer to
the current safety data sheets (MSDS/SDS) for safety protocols.
Chemical exposure hazard. Dispose of chemicals and wastes in accordance with local,
regional and national regulations.
Do not disassemble the sensor to clean the sensor.
To prevent sensor damage, do not use organic solvents (e.g., acetone or methanol), strong acids,
or strong bases to clean the sensor.
Examine the sensor periodically for debris and deposits. Clean the sensor when there is a buildup of
deposits.
1. Put on the applicable personal protective equipment. Refer to the MSDS sheet.
2. Prepare a mild soap solution with a non-abrasive dishwashing detergent that does not contain
lanolin. As an alternative, use a laboratory cleaning solution (e.g., Liqui-Nox).
Note: Lanolin leaves a film on the optical surface, which can decrease the accuracy of the measurement.
3. Complete the illustrated steps that follow to clean the sensor.
• At illustrated step 3, use the mild soap solution (or laboratory cleaning solution) and a cleaning
swab to clean the through hole. Use only foam-tipped swabs.
Note: Other swabs (e.g., cotton swabs) and wipes can leave particles in the sensor, which can decrease the
accuracy of the measurement.
• At illustrated step 4, use warm deionized water (or clean water) to rinse the through hole two
times.
• At illustrated step 5, use isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) and a second cleaning swab to
remove any film added by the detergent.
If there are hard deposits in the through hole (e.g., marine growth), use 5% sulfuric acid and a
third cleaning swab to remove the deposits. If a hard deposit cannot be removed with 5%
sulfuric acid, contact technical support.
