4.4 Adjust PAH for turbidity with Profibus (optional)
If the SC1000 Controller has the optional 4-20 mA output card and the optional Profibus module
installed and a turbidimeter is connected to the SC1000 Controller, the turbidity compensated PAH
reading is available from the Profibus output when the steps that follow are done.
1. Do the steps
Adjust PAH for turbidity with 4-20 mA output (optional)
2. Select SC1000 SETUP > NETWORK MODULES > PROFIBUS-DP > TELEGRAM > INPUT
VALUE > INPUT VALUE 1.
4.5 Do a calibration verification
Periodically, measure a calibration standard to identify if the sensor is still calibrated as follows:
1. Clean the sensor. Refer to
2. Put the supplied valve in the fitting on the bottom of the sensor. Make sure that the valve is
closed.
3. Rinse the sensor with deionized water as follows:
a. Fill the sensor with deionized water.
b. Open the valve to discard the deionized water from the sensor, then close the valve again.
4. Measure the phenanthrene equivalent standard as follows:
a. Put the contents of the ampule into the empty vial. Touch the top edge of the ampule to the
top edge of the vial to pull the liquid into the vial.
b. Use a pipette to fill the sensor with the calibration standard.
c. Open the valve to discard the phenanthrene equivalent standard from the sensor, then close
the valve again.
d. Use the pipette to fill the sensor with the calibration standard.
e. Put a plug in the fitting on the top of the sensor.
f. Wait for the response change to the expected value (60 seconds maximum), then record the
measurement.
5. If the recorded measurement is more than ± 5% different than the value of the phenanthrene
equivalent standard, calibrate the sensor with the optional Calibration Kit. Refer to
calibration
on page 20.
Note: PAH = calibrated PAH × SCALE FACTOR. The SCALE FACTOR setting adjusts the PAH measurement
by a multiplier (0.01 to 9.99, default: 1.00). Refer to
6. Discard the open ampule.
7. Discard the contents of the vial.
4.6 Do a 1-point calibration
Chemical exposure hazard. Obey laboratory safety procedures and wear all of the personal
protective equipment appropriate to the chemicals that are handled. Refer to the current safety data
sheets (MSDS/SDS) for safety protocols.
Chemical exposure hazard. Dispose of chemicals and wastes in accordance with local,
regional and national regulations.
Notes:
• A 1-point calibration changes the default offset, which fine tunes the factory calibration.
• A 1-point calibration does not change the slope value.
