Performing a visual inspection
A visual inspection must be performed prior to each medical procedure.
Proceed as follows:
1. Inspect the housing of the light source for external damage.
Do not use the light source if there is any external damage to the housing.
2. Check that all electric cables are undamaged and positioned safely.
Do not use the device if the electric cables are damaged or present a trip or
entanglement hazard.
3. Check that the light guide you intend to use is undamaged.
Do not use the light guide if it is broken or twisted.
This concludes the visual inspection.
Performing a function check
A function check must be performed prior to each medical procedure.
Proceed as follows:
1. Check that the light guide you intend to use meets the applicable electrical
safety requirements for the procedure to be performed.
Do not use the light guide if its electrical insulation does not correspond to that
of the applied part being used. Depending on the procedure being performed,
the light guide must be compatible either with an applied part classified as
type BF or one classified as type CF according to IEC 60601-1.
2. Connect the light guide.
3. The light guide should be directed away from the eyes to avoid dazzling
anybody.
4. Switch on the light source.
Check that you are able to adjust the brightness and that the system is func-
tioning correctly.
Do not use the light source if you are unable to adjust the brightness.
This concludes the function check.
