Damage to components

Damage to components due to missing lubrication (Dry run)
The axial face seals of the rotating unions are lubricated and cooled by the flow medi-
um. If the rotating unions are operated without medium present they are not lubricated
and will thus be damaged.
Note
Q Ensure that the rotating unions are operated with a flow medium.
Q Switch off the plant/machine, if the rotating unions are operated without flow me-
dium.
6.4

Improper operation

Operating safety is only ensured if the rotating union is operated as described in Chapter 1 of this sup-
plementary operating manual. The notes regarding the operating parameters mentioned in Chapter
1.1 are to be observed.
Any deviation from the admissible operating conditions as well as inadmissible operating mode
may result in exceeding the determined temperature class (T3).
6.5

Noise of rotating union

Depending on the local conditions, a continuous sound level may occur which causes noise deafness.
In this case, the operating personnel is to be provided with the required protective equipment or pro-
tected by means of appropriate safety measures (e.g. ear protection, warnings, etc.). The continuous
sound level is to be measured in the operating, control, or maintenance areas.
6.6

Temperature limits

Under normal operating conditions, the highest temperatures are to be expected at the surface of the
housing of the rotating union, the axial face seal, and in the area of the bearing.
The surface temperature occurring at the housing corresponds to the temperature of the conveyed liq-
uid unless it is heated additionally. This is based on the assumption that a free contact exists between
the surface and the atmosphere.
In any case, the operator of the plant is responsible for the observance of the determined media tem-
perature (operating temperature 120 °C).
Specifications regarding the maximum admissible temperature of the liquid to be conveyed as
a function of the medium, axial face seal, required temperature class, and pressure are given
in Chapter 1.1.
In case of axial face seals, the admissible temperature limits can be exceeded by dry running.
Dry running may occur if the seal space is not filled sufficiently and also if the gas contents of
the medium are too high. Operation of the devices outside the admissible operating range may
also cause dry running.
Axial face seals are to be checked for leakage on a regular basis.

Storage

Damage of component due to incorrect storage
If you store the rotating unions incorrectly, they become leaky or are damaged.
Q Store the rotating unions in a dry space between 3 °C and 40 °C.
Note
Q Store rotating unions for two years at the most.
