For your Safety

This chapter provides information on the safe handling of DEUBLIN rotating unions.
Q This operating manual is a material part of the specified rotating unions. The operator is re-
sponsible for the personnel to take note of this manual.
Q The operator of the rotating unions shall not make any modifications or attachments to and
retrofitting of the rotating union without the manufacturer's consent.
Q This manual further includes basic information on the use in hazardous areas which is to be
observed during set-up, operation, supervision, and maintenance.
Q For your own safety and the safety of other people read this operating manual carefully and
completely prior to working on or with DEUBLIN rotating unions.
Q This operating manual exclusively describes the rotating unions of the manufacturer DEUBLIN.
In the further description/explanation the name "DEUBLIN" is left out for a better readability.
Q Notes as to use in hazardous areas are marked with
Q Use of spare parts shall comply with the technical requirements specified by the manufactur-
ers. When using original spare parts, this is always ensured.
Q In zones 1, 2, 21, and 22 steel tools are admissible in case of which only one single spark may
occur. Tools which cause a ray of sparks are only admissible if it is ensured that no hazardous,
potentially explosive atmosphere prevails at the workplace.
Q Dust deposits at the workplace are to be removed.
Q Use of tools as well as operation in the zones should be subject to a licence procedure.
Q Should further information be required or damage occur, please contact DEUBLIN GmbH.
Q The rotating unions are state-of-the-art technology and designed according to recognised
safety rules. However, use may result in hazards for the user or third parties and/or impairment
of the devices and other assets if they are:
- operated by personnel which is not trained or instructed appropriately,
- not operated according to their intended use,
- repaired or maintained improperly.

Intended Use

Q Rotating unions connect rotating pressure equipment with pressure pipes through which me-
dia flow. Rotating pressure equipment includes devices such as rollers through which liquids
flow to cool or heat the roller.
Q For the operating conditions as well as admissible flow media, please see Table A of this op-
erating manual.
Q Flow of explosive and/or combustible liquids, gases, or vapour is interdicted.
Q Rotating unions can be used in hazardous areas of zone 2 and/or 22; if the protective equip-
ment described in Chapter 5.1 is installed, they can also be operated in zone 1 and/or 21.
Q Use of self-inflaming substances is interdicted and thus not according to the intended use. The
information as to inflammability in the safety data sheet of the substance is to be evaluated by
the operator.
Q Oscillating operation is not permitted.
Q The rotating unions are not suitable for use in the food industry.
Q They must only be operated with the accessories which are provided for this purpose and ap-
proved by the manufacturer.
Q Other use or use exceeding the above is not as intended; in particular, only that use of the ro-
tating unions in explosive atmosphere which is marked on the product (e.g. laser marking) is
deemed intended use.
Q Intended use also includes observance of the notes as to safety, operation, and maintenance/
repair which are given in this operating manual.
